Income affidavit for extension
« on: October 12, 2018, 11:03:32 AM »
So here I am in America eating real steaks, reading the news about immigration demanding the embassy authenticate the income amounts presented on affidavit of income and the push back from the embassy is that they are not in the business of doing so. Therefore they will no longer issue the affidavit.

I also read that other embassies are going to follow suit.

Now I see this as a serious concern for many expats.

I called to Buriram Immigration and was told that if no affidavit is provided by your embassy the only other option is the bank letter with proof of funds. If you don?t have either then you don?t get an extension.

They also said that they have no official word that any embassy is refusing to offer the affidavit but if you are concerned then contact your embassy.

I did.

The response was that there is no official word either way from the American embassy and to follow the embassy on social media and check the website for any updates.

So,  I have no heartburn about being corrected here. If anyone gets better info please pass it on.

Best of luck to everyone!!

One response from the US embassy:

?We are aware of the U.K. Embassy?s statement to the press. The U.S. Embassy?s current income affidavit policies can be found on our website: https://th.usembassy.gov/?/local-resources?/notaries-public/. We are currently evaluating options regarding the future provision of this document. We urge all citizens to ensure they are in compliance with Thai visa requirements.?

Yea, no shit!! And being in compliance means getting the letter from the embassy!  What utter BS!
