« on: August 12, 2018, 09:57:17 PM »
I need a new desktop computer built preferably in Buri Ram as I do like to stay local, anyone had any dealings with a good computer shop.

I had one build at JIB in Robinson. Completely to my spec and came out better and cheaper then I could have ordered prebuild online. I ordered my PC on Monday and on Friday it was ready (had to order parts from BKK).

Please note, there is one guy (I believe he is the manager) who I trust to build or fix my computers but it?s a hit and miss when he is in the shop as he often has to go to BKK.

I concur with JIB in 2nd floor Robinsons Mall.  They did 19 computers for our internet shop and they provide on site support (because their manager has been our customer for years).

The
Advice shop in Lam plai mat is bad. I went there once for a pc and they thought a farang want to pay more. Had to pay for Windows 10 and the pc was 20% more expensive than in another shop.

Thanks for the heads up, may use the G/F as bait when I sort exactly what I want, send her in get a quote then show my ugly mug. We never buy anything with me on the site so she is used to it.

<snip> Had to pay for Windows 10 <snip>

That is normal if you want a Legit Copy, the time that Win10 was given away for free has stopped.
Maybe there are still ways to get free copies (something to do with accessibility) but I doubt that a shop will do that for you !

Yes that is a possibility, because a lot of keys are being resold

Read more about it here:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_store/windows-10-reseller-legit-or-not/bbd9b451-8989-411b-ba24-1064c8c67a8b

2 things (IMHO) about those keys:

1- They could stop working anytime (if you are unlucky) and the only option to reactivate them is to place a call to Microsoft and convince the person on the line that it was bought legit.

2- If they didn't came with an official Microsoft download link but they came on a USB stick, be very wary about bundled malware (Keyloggers etc etc)

I just upgraded my very old PC with a new motherboard, AMD APU and 8 GB x DDR4 RAM.  The previous version of Windows was a legit CD of Win 8.1 that received an upgrade to Win 10 Home last year before the free upgrade offer expired.  When I changed out the soul of the PC Microsoft did not want to know! They would not validate the key.  Tried many tricks of the trade without success.  In the end I wiped everything from the boot SSD  and booted from the original Win 8.1 CD. It worked and the key was accepted by Microsoft, copy validated. I then bought a new Win 10 Pro key from eBay for about 120  baht. It worked - Microsoft accepted the key and Win 10 Pro is up and running well.

I concur with an earlier post, most computer shops sell their computers  (PCs and Laptops) without the Win 10 operating system. If you want Win 10 it will cost you extra.  Always check the specifications and see what is included in the selling price. Typically, a genuine version of Win 10 Home will cost you an extra 4,000 baht.  See:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windows-10-home/d76qx4bznwk4/1NT3   - US$ 139.

I brought a new Desk Top PC from Advice about 6 months ago , I told them the spec I wanted and for just the Cabinet it was 12k ( as I had the screen and keyboard/mouse already )  , I gave them my old one a few weeks later and they put in a new fan ,CPU and Windows 10 Pro ( 800 Baht the lot ) and my Step Daughter uses it every day .They both have the same Windows 10 Pro and it updates and works fine . :)

Agree. You could end up with problems of Titanic proportions.
