GERRY LEACH
« on: July 12, 2017, 12:24:01 PM »
HI ALL   GERRY LEACH HAS BEEN IN BURIRAM THAILAND A LONG TIME AND MADE MANY FRIENDS
AT THE MOMENT HE IS IN PUBLIC HOSPITAL FLOOR NUMBER 4 AND HAS TERMINAL CANCER
IF ANY ONE WOULD LIKE TO VISIT HIM SOON A RATHER THAN LATER I AM SURE HE WOULD BE PLEASED TO SEE THEM
AS I LIVE CLOSE TO HIM I HAVE TAKEN AN INTEREST IN HIS PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES
GERRY HAS BEEN LIVING ON HIS BASIC UK PENSION FOR SOME TIME
AND HAS NO INS AND HAS A MIN AMOUNT LEFT IN BANK
I AM CONVINCED IT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH TO COVER THE HOSPITAL BILL
GERRY  HAS UNDER GONE SURGERY AND HAS BEEN IN HOSPITAL FOR THE LAST 10 DAYS
WITH MORE TO COME AS HE IS TO UNWELL TO COME OUT
I HAVE MANAGED TO CONTACT A FAMILY MEMBER IN UK FOR HELP AND ASSISTANCE
BUT AS I UNDERSTAND FROM OTHER EXPATS HAD THE USUAL RESPONSE WE CANT HELP
WHAT DO WE DO AS EXPATS WHEN A FELLOW EX NAVY VETERAN GETS TO THIS STAGE ANY ADVISE AND HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED
 REGARDS GEOFF

I sympathise with and respect your efforts. I generally get to the end of the month with about ฿500.- left over.
This kind of thing happens all the time and for many of us it is a "there, but for the grace of God" moment when we hear about it. I myself have a minimal health insurance that certainly won't carry me through a long period of treatment, and I do worry about my family being faced with huge bills one day. At least I have thought about it. I wish I had taken up a repatriation insurance before I was 65, I was misinformed at the time.
Does that sound unsympathetic? I suppose it does.
Good luck anyway, for myself I have tried to help people in this kind of situation in the past and it generally gets nowhere.
PS. Please don't use CAPITAL LETTERS.

Sad as this is..........Where are all this mans many friends now ,when they are needed?
There are far too many expats living here in LOS without the means to exist if anything untoward happens. We all know the situation here especially with healthcare and many choose to bury their heads in the sand until it is too late.

I don't know the guy and to the best of recollections never met him.  Yes it is sad, but he set up the situation, and if the family does not care .....?  What is the embassy's position?

However, I think it is admirable of the Op to do what he believes is the right thing.  I will pledge 1000 baht towards the effort.

Geoffrey, PM me to arrange payment.

We are looking into the possibility of health cover for age 70+. We will advise when we have information

Normally 65 is the cut off date to apply, and frequently many exclusions apply if the medical history is not 100%

We would strongly recommend anyone without health cover to seek whatever is available without delay. You may not be eligible for much, but something is better than nothing.

We are able to advise that we can obtain health insurance right up to the age of 90, (subject to medical report) although quite obviously the older one is the more expensive the cover becomes.

We are sending a PM to Tassie with details, and will provide information to anyone who may be interested,

No need to use all capital letters. Normal typing is more easily read.

An Ex Pat has passed away and the post is providing details for anyone wishing to attend the funeral.  Given the subject matter, Is it really necessary to pick the poster up for using caps.
