Toyota Prerunner - 3.0 Diesel - Very Good

Our friend is moving back to the USA and we are helping him sell his 2006 Toyota Prerunner pickup truck. We are also selling our own 4 wheel drive 4 door Toyota and my daughters 2012 Ford Focus. Advertised separately.
 
This truck has a 3.0 Diesel engine with 5 speed manual transmission, 1st class insurance that is good until September 2017 and a clean title. It was just serviced by Toyota 2 weeks ago.

What does 'Pre-Runner' mean?

That got me googling. Apparently it just means it's a 2 wheel drive. I'd always thought it was something to do with the engine, buy no.

Further reading. Maybe not as it appears Toyota also do a 4x4 pre runner. Guess where Toyota are concerned it is just the package and means Bugger all. They just thought it sounded good.

What does 'Pre-Runner' mean?

Technically, the word “prerunner” refers to a vehicle that pre-runs an off-road race course. A lot of off-road racers have a designated prerunner that’s very similar to their actual race vehicle, which gives them a chance to run a course without having to ding up their race truck.

However, many off-road race teams have been known to pre-run rental vehicles, dirt buggies, bikes, etc., so the technical definition is pretty “loose.”

The more common definition of the word “prerunner” is a 2WD truck that has a lift kit. The Tacoma PreRunner basically matches this description, but a lot of people build prerunners with long-travel suspensions, 500hp motors, etc.

Basically, the word prerunner means different things to different people…but now you know enough to join the debate.

The Pre-Runner basically has the same body style as the 4 wheel drive, which had more ground clearance and bigger tires and a few extra features. I think when they made this model the did not offer it in 4 door with the 2 wheel drive, but I think they do make 4 door Pre-Runners now.

This model with the 3.0 Diesel engine is great with plenty of power so the engine revs are lower with a higher gear ratio compared to other trucks I have owned or driven. Highway use is approximately 12 k/ltr.
