I know it's about "watercooled" cars but there might be some owners on there with what you are looking for. They even had some mk 2 golfs for sale on there. It's all in thai but that's where you will find the good prices.

In Europe yes that would maybe be possible, but in Thailand / SE-Asia I sincerely doubt it.  Good luck with your search.
