Thai Royal Flag
« on: January 04, 2015, 08:31:40 AM »
On King's Birthday last month, I was in BKK entertaining some overseas friends. They were intrigued by everybody wearing
yellow shirts, and all the yellow flags.

"Why yellow ? " they asked.

In Khmer and Thai tradition, astrological rule assigns a different colour for each day of the week.

His Majesty the King was born on a Monday (yellow)

If Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn inherits the Throne, the Royal colour will stay yellow, as he was also born on a Monday. (28th July 1952)

Queen Sirikit was born on a Friday, hence the light blue flags for anything relating to the Queen.

I know this info is obvious to all Expats, and something that we take for granted living in Thailand, but as visitors, I thought
my friends' question was very sensible.

My girlfriend was born on a Saturday, hence purple is her "lucky colour". What day was your wife/GF born ?
