LINUX
« on: November 25, 2014, 04:36:26 AM »
I have had enough of Windows and want to kill it, install Linux instead. Can anyone loan/sell me a linux bootable disc/flash drive that I can copy? Preferably Ubuntu or Debian.

I don't know if it is an option, but What about downloading a ISO and burning to a Cd / Dvd?

I have tried that but one of the reasons that I am sick of Windows is that I have a blaster worm that keeps interrupting my communication with internet and closing down the computer (thanks for the pirated copy of XP last time I brought it to your shop, guys). Linux need about 2 hours to download so not been successful up to now. Thanks anyway.

Maybe it's worth your while to download HitmanPro and run this on your PC

Link: http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/

If you can't run it, there is what is called "Force Breach Mode" and this will bypass (most) viruses.
(Just search for "HitmanPro in Force Breach Mode" via Google)

It's a "free" program, meaning it will let you scan for free and will give you (when it finds something) a Free license for 30 days to Scan and Remove, if you are still using it after those 30 days you will have to pay for it.

And if that fails, just PM me with the Distro you want and your address (in Thai) and I will send you via EMS a CD or DVD (can your PC boot from DVD ??) free of charge.

Please note it can be a while (1-2 weeks) before I can send it

Forgot:

There are 2 versions of HitManPro for download namely the 32 Bit and the 64 Bit version. If in doubt which one to download, download the 32 bit version.

I had a very bad experience with linux.. not so user friendly to use as windows I would say..
There is a reason windows/apple are more popular.
I will strongly recommend you to move to MAC instead of windows it might be worth it better for you.

@Admin.

I intend to agree with you on that, however the latest Ubuntu or Kubuntu are very user friendly and easy to learn.

But my major problem with converting to  MAC is to find the software. Oke you can run Parellels to still run Windows but for Linux you have Wine which does the same and is Free.

Most software I need I would have to pay a lot of money to get the equivalent on MAC but on Linux it's free.

Hitman got some results but things are still desperate. Looking at memory problems now, but still want Linux. I learnt a lot about Windows in the last 24 hours!
I was ok with Linux before, but it was a bit frustrating at first.

Oke understood, first check if your PC can boot from DVD as Distro's are getting larger and larger.

Which distro's do you want ? Preferably a link so I can start downloading for you.

Ps: Do you want an LTS or a "normal" version. Difference is that an LTS version will get 5 year support / patches and with the "normal" version you will only get 9 months after which you (can) do a Distro upgrade.

PsPs: How much RAM (Memory) does your PC have ?

PsPsPs: Here is a link that can help making the decision which distro to go for:

and here a list of all the "ubuntu" flavours:

It would be the LTS version if that is possible. I have 1.99 GB ram, that's plenty, isn't it? What happens to BIOS, can I uninstall XP completely and hope my memory problems go away?

With only 2Gb of memory you are really pushing it. Can't you upgrade to 4gb ?
Ram isn't that expensive.

And you will notice the difference.

Ps: Download a program called Speccy (link: https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds) and post the details for your CPU, RAM, and Graphics (you will see this info when you run the program)

Psps: if you have Bios  / memory problems they will not go away when you install a new OS, maybe it's a good idea to take your computer into a pc shop and have them check it out, before you proceed.

5555 I showed you my specs in that picture to so, don't be shy :)

Those specs look oke, but I would advise you to increase your RAM to the max of 4Gb (more then that is useless unless you go for 64 bits, but that's another discussion)

I can get up to 50% more ram going through advanced system settings I believe, never tried it. I am not going to buy ram for an old machine like this, which is ideal for experimenting with Linux. I'll get back on this. Willbe trying virtual linuz today.
