Thanks Gotlost. That sounds like a good option. What I meant by (retirement extension at the Bangkok Embassy) was that if only KCI dont follw the 60 day first time seasoning approach, I would go to Bangkok immigration (or another) to process my retirement extension.

Thats an option but you need to show a local address for the area of that immigration office.

Personally a letter from your embassy is the best rout I think the British embassy charges 2500 baht. As for your bank account get it organized ASAP and in your name only as this is the only way immigration will accept it when you do use it for proof of funds.

Freddy,

I changed from a tourist to retirement and they wanted me to have 21 days left on my visa to do the change.  Not sure if they will want the same from you.

And the having the income letter from the embassy would be a good thing, along with setting up the Bank account with 800,000 baht ASAP.  The first retirement visa I got was for 15 months, 3 month of checkout (could not leave Thailand) then I had to resubmit the package again (to include income) and got the 1 year and the multi-entry.

If you haven't seen this thread:  http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,7614.0.html

It provides the basics of what you need.  PM me it you want help putting together the package.

Gonna get my head around all of this and then no doubt will be back asking more novice questions.

You can never convert from a tourist visa to a retirement or marriage extension. Both extension have to start with an O-visa and then you get the extension.

Check their web site. I'm a American and we have to make on line appoints for both the US Embassy in Bangkok and the US Consulate  in Chiang Mai.

Im guessing it will be the same. I'm thinking I may Woos out for the first year and get a visa agent to do it all for me and then just copy what they did next year.

Your choice but its a waste of money for a so called visa agent. Easy enough to do your self.

Depends,  Sitting down with me advice is free.   Just like my experience here is free:  http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,7614.0.html

You want a package put together using the capabilities of my printers and computers,  then we need to negotiate a price based on what you need.  You can bring your computer here, WIFI (15 baht an hour) and do the package yourself (had a guy do that), and we just printed/copy.

I've had guys come in just have a copies made (I have a commerical copier) and we charge the standard copy rate (about a baht per page).   The cheapest way would be to do all the work youself and we'll print whatever you need and copy for you.   Or you can come basically empty handed (need your passport, residence proof, and income proof) and we'll work together to fill out the paperwork (including the Thai forms), take and print photo for you, and put together the package based on what my dummies thread said is needed.  And then save the paperwork to your USB Drive.   (500 baht total)   The caveat is that we are not a visa service, we basically do the printing, copying and paperwork help.

Sure DD,

That visa thing is not a business, just a service my internet shop provides.  And since I just upgraded the entire internet shop I expect to be running as long as most village Thais cannot afford computers and internet.  Expats are a minuscule part of my customer base.

So I will look forward to seeing you.
