Army checking farang passports
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:46:20 PM »
Last week I travelled on the NCA bus from Buriram to BKK. My girlfriend was with me.

At Nong Ki the bus was stopped by the Army at a checkpoint. Two Army guys came on board and checked all passengers for Thai ID's, or farang passports. No problem for me, as I had my passport.

The Army guy told my girlfriend that a farang was offloaded the previous day, as he had no passport to show them.

Not sure what became of him, but apparently the bus continued to BKK without him.

So ... just a little reminder to carry your passport if travelling any distance from home.

I showed ID, not passport, although I had it with me. three times driving to Chonburi and back, 3/4 June. Checking buses seems to be new.

You always seem to get treated differently to everyone else..........several farangs have been taken off the buses in Nong Ki for not carrying their passports.........they have to remain until the said passport turns up!

Thank you for the tip. I travel long trips with family and never take the passport with me. But I will in future. I usually take a photo of my passport and have it on my phone. But it isnt worth the risk

I travelled to Bangkok in my car in the early hours of Monday morning, I was stopped at a check point in Nong Ki, where the clown in the army uniform ask for my passport,i replied I didn't have my passport with me but presented him my driving licence, a quick glance at the  licence and I was on my way.
What a complete waste of time.

Its not a problem in a car/pickup...........only on the buses.....why??.....because the ones checking the buses have a few stripes the rest haven't.

Thai law says you must carry ID and NOT only a passport. Life is simple when laws are enforced correctly and not broken
