Thai Girl

It's coming up to the tenth anniversary of publication of my novel, THAI GIRL.  It's been reprinted many times and is available as an ebook, so it's done well.

The significance is that it's about a girl from Buriram and though most of the action is on Koh Samet and Koh Chang where Fon is a beach masseuse, she and naïve Brit, Ben, her aspiring lover, do make a visit to Khao Phnom Rung.

The relevance to Isaan is that the story portrays the plight of the poor migrant heading south to look for work.  So many bar girl stories show little understanding of or interest in rural Thailand, the fount of the market in women and I hope mine makes the reader think a little beyond the glitter and fantasy of the bar scene.  Thailand is not just an adventure playground for the frigid West.

Would Davu sneer if Shakespeare came on the forum to mention an anniversary? 

Actually Shakespeare might complain that THAI GIRL plagiariases ROMEO AND JULIET and he'd be right.

It's a tropical ROMEO AND JULIET  without the coffins and as such is one of the most relateable stories in history.

Well I published 'medieval dance music sources' 13 years ago.

Have read it about five times , great book , and many aspects that happen in the book , happened to me , its a good read , many of you will enjoy it .

Then again, keep it coming!  Writing is a lonely business and even if a book sells well this sort of endorsement is more than gratifying.  Your comment is the one I appreciate most... that the book is true to your own experiences.

If the book has a theme, it's the mutual fascination of farang and Thai, set against their essential incompatibility... that while he thinks she really loves him if she's not interested in his money, she measures his love for her by how ready he is to shell it out.

Know what I mean?
