An Australian man was seriously injured on Tuesday after jumping off a hotel balcony in downtown Surin in Northeast Thailand.
Anthony J Scarrabelotti survived the fall from the hotel balcony and was taken to Surin General Hospital with serious injuries, Pol Lt Col Prakit Luangvisai, deputy inspector of the Surin police station, said.
Mr Scarrabelotti, 45, is from Victoria state in Australia, according to his driver's licence found on a sixth floor balcony of the building.
Rescue and medic workers help Australian Anthony J Scarrabelotti, who sustained serious injury after jumping from the balcony of Phetkasem Hotel on Tuesday.
Investigators also found his wallet, shoes and cigarette butts on the balcony, the officer added.
A housemaid told the police the Australian was not a hotel guest. She saw him knocking on doors of rooms on the floor searching for his girlfriend.
He was later seen smoking and using a mobile phone on the floor balcony, she said.
Mr Scarrabelotti looked angry after apparently quarreling with someone on the phone, and then jumped off the balcony before she could help him, the housekeeper said.
Police found his cell phone, which had fallen on to the roof of the hotel restaurant, and called the last number he had dialled, but no one answered.
Police suspected that it was the number of the girlfriend he was looking for.
