Dave perhaps you could 'mediate'

I am very sorry to say, I must decline this role, as this months quota of people to annoy has already been met.
Maybe get back to me during August and I will try to fit them up in.

lol thats how it must seem,  Farang put plastic card into ATM and money come out  party6

cool   O0

anyway during talk time discussion today, above subject came up again!! :o

So I questioned how figure was arrived at, seemingly a neighbours daughter (and distant cousin) got married to a German farang and he paid 300,000 Baht but she was young and a virgin  :D and had no children, so I think it has more to do with saving face (or should I dare say, keeping up with the jones's) rolleyesbar

"I say dear, couple next door get 300,000 for there daughter maybe we should see if we can get more! Don't want to be outdone you know, not good show"

Yes I know I should not make fun of a tradition, which is disappearing along with other aspects of rural life, but sometimes it does seem that way! party4

If it was just for show and you could be safe in the knowledge that it would be return to you after ceremony them would be considered. Other wise it could just be taken as "lets see how much we can get from this falang.

You give us 300,000 Baht (£6,000) build house for your new wife 1.5 million Baht (£30,000) buy car/pickup ? suppose close to £50,000 all intold and then when you go home for short holiday its sorry honey me no like you anymore so you no come back thanks  sissies

You are doing the cleverest think IMHO, talking calmly about it  eusadance and I am glad you realise the perceptions of 'Face.'
Unlike as was said previously, I have experienced the money given back (to others) and its done on the quiet so 'NO FACE' is lost.
The party people see a ceremony with gold/money being given and that's the end of it.

You are misleading people about the "Sin Sod" idea.

In MOST CASES "Sin Sod" will not be returned, this is the way it is with THAI and FARANG.

In RARE CASES, where the farang or THAI are trying to keep face - the "Sin Sod" will be returned but NOT TELLING people in the community / village and keep it discreetly inside the family.

Agree

In my 9 years in Isaan, I have seen/attended many village weddings, with sin sod from 20,000bt to 300,000bt, and it has NEVER been returned!

This may happen though in Bangkok, where the mothers do not prize money over their daughters happiness.

Aye, its a though one!  I am still talking to her about it, though I think she seem a little reluctant to talk about it now! :-X

Anyway I will not pressure to much.... Wheres that table lamp, chair and rope I had  put aside for some reason!  character4

All she says now is "no worry about it, mama say no poblem"  so guess just have to go with the flow and see what happens. I am still shocked that she would think she would be of the same value as a young virgin with no kids, she is 30 with a 5 year old and has lived with 2 thai men previously (well thats all she is admitting to at moment)  :D :D But guess if you love someone enough they are worth their weight in gold!

mmmmmm more I think about it the less I want to get married now hurhur

 character2

Thanks for the feed back. It is always a strange subject sinsod (maybe it should be sod sin) :)

ok, I am not familiar with US dollars, so they single, fives, tens, twenties, or fifties or even one hundred dollar bills!!  I reckon that there is around about 30 on display and maybe 30 to 50 in hand... so could be :-

80 dollars = 2,580 Baht = 54 GBP
400 dollars =12,880 Baht = 265 GBP
800 dollars =25,770 Baht = 530 GBP
1600 dollars =51,536 Baht = 1,062 GBP
4000 dollars =128,840 Baht = 2,655 GBP
8000 dollars =257,680 Baht = 5,310 GBP

(slight fluctation in xchange rate, but get the general Idea!  wackobar )

So could look good just gotta be careful on notes used I guess I do have some lovely green Scottish "ONE" pound notes, the blue fives are ok, but do not look the part, the brown tens are very nice indeed, the purple twentys are rare, the red fifties (had some sometime) and the 100's mmmmm had one once. lol last a whole month before I was forced to convert it to Bahts :(

So could be a reasonable cost or an expensive one, You just need some smart alec in the guests who knows there notes!  confused1

Anyway think the subject has been pushed to one side for the time being. I will know more when she decides to let me in on the picture! Hohum

confused5  mmm option two!! do you mean get of the camel

Hi I just came back from a fun trip to Buriram in april and after 2 months July 1 the gal I was seeing there just stopped writing me, just like she fell off the face of the earth. I am wondering if there is a way someone can contact her for me if I supply her address in Steuk Buriram. She's 43 and I did not think at that age they would be scamming me but I guess that is the case. I did stay with her for almost 10-11 days and we had a lot of fun in Pattaya and the Royal River hotel  on the River of Kings, went to see the Grand Palace, also China town, and visited the old temple ruins in North east Thailand as well as the elephant sanctuary near Steuk, she introduced me to her family that lived near the Buriram airport, also to her sisters that lived in Pattaya and BKK and her daughter is starting university. So I helped with some money for the daughter but nothing outrageous.  Not sure why she decided to stop all contact with me. I have been nothing but good to her and I think she may need to realize that other farangs may not treat her as well as I do. Even saw and had dinner with her boss there. So I am kinda confused here and thinking that maybe I was scammed and if it was she played a very very good game. I do want her to know that i am still hoping that she changes her mind but know that this is a very slim slim chance but nothing ventured and nothing gained right.  If anyone has an idea how I can contact her now I would appreciate it.  I do have her home address and where she works. Thanks for any info you might provide for me.
