Fire in Krasang ?H
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:35:27 PM »
Hello Guys -
Don't usually post - so forgive my for that. Have a question about something
the girl told me this last week. She says there was a large fire in Krasang, with 13 houses
burning down. Says it was right in town near the market. Required fire departments from Surin and Buri to come and put out. Can't find any news about this. Soooooo - some kind
of buffalo story, or really happened ? Can someone help out here ? Should be big enough
news to find out.
Many Thanx/ Chris.

It really happened all right.  My partner's 'raan ahaan' is just near the railway station, and the fire was in the street parallel to the railway, the side away from the main shopping area.  I saw the smoke from our house about 8kms away in a straight line... at least I think that's what it was, though I thought it was clouds at the time!

Many thanks for the reply - wonder why it never made any news ? A loss like this is terrible
for the home owners, but good news is most (or all ) had insurance coverage.

13 houses destroyed and you say most  or all had insurance. That surprises me immensly.  In my experience here in Thailand, very few Thais have house insurance.

Don't really know - only what the girl tells me - like most things she tells. Without being
there it's like with the mushrooms (you know - keep me in the dark and feed me bull****).

PN. Insurance as we know it I agree. I had a personal experience a few years back of a next door neighbor (Thai) whose house burnt to the ground. The structure was not worth 100K baht but before she could rebuild she had to wait for a police report (3 weeks) AND she received a check from the local authorities for 20K baht That 20K baht as was explained to me was insurance.

This is most likely the case - Thai meaning (ie. insurance) is often different from farang meaning. 555 what's new ??? I still struggle to understand my Thai girl in both words and
meaning. Would be better if I could speak Thai !!!

I'm not sure what you guys mean with "shopping area" relative to the railway? Was the fire on the side of the railway that has the actual railway station, or on the other side? (I'm pretty sure that the "other" side is south of the railway and the station side is north of the railway, which runs pretty much east to west...)

The railway station exit is onto a large open area.  Come out and turn right, and on your left you will see a Thai restaurant, the kind where you buy a quick meal, or a lunchbox.  That belongs to my partner.  Fresh ingredients, clean, and well-cooked!  And if my partner's there, English-speaking.

North/south;  without being there to look, I'm not sure.
