Quite correct TAL (hope you do not mind) its a dog eat dog world as you rightly say, whats the answer?, maybe here in Thailand is to stamp down on the blatant corruption were those who are "connected" or are in "positions of power" appear totally immune from being  punished or held accountable for their misdeeds ,a prime example is Thaksin's W.O.D in 03 and to a lesser degree more cases than I care to mention (on both sides of the political spectrum) as Farangs we have no influence on how this Country is run, however that does not mean we cannot comment ,as I am sure you will agree us farangs add quite a lot to this Countrys economy whilst taking nothing from it party4

FWIW. My take on the 20 baht scheme for rice. The government probay worded it incorrectly but they did not promise a complet 20 baht per kilo. They should of said UP to 20 baht as the price was still paid on the quality as 2 post have outlined.

Maybe it was worded incorrectly who knows, never the less the Issan Electorate voted on the assumption that this was an across the board price or IMHO they were deceived  ,just the same as the across board 300 baht a day wage increase, which was shall we say was "reviewed " owing to "outside" business pressure ,and With respect I hardly think that the normal Issan Thai is used to reading the "fine print" but takes everything at face value ,and there in lies the real crux of the matter, we have often heard the old political cliche "my words were taken out of context", it would seem to me that is what applies here all to well  .

You are quite right to assume that i would agree with you, indeed we as farang contribute a vast amount of revenue into this country,it may well be spent on anything from education of our children to intoxication of ones self, but as in both cases it's money well spent, would you not agree.

Yeah TAL I suppose that goes for every one here in Buriram ,we all make our little contributions  to the well being of the province ,with many changing the lives of our partners for the better to a standard they could only dream of before, of course mistakes are made as we read all too often ,but that scenario is not unique to Thailand is it! smilenod , all in all I'm well satisfied with my life here in my little village ,of course their is room for improvement ,but that could be said all over the world , especially now when it would appear its got its head up its financial nether regions with no light showing at the end of the tunnel at this moment in time .
