Depending on the insurance company, the quote seems average. Virayha who reckon they are the ' top ' insurance are VERY expensive and if my recent experience is normal, don't seem to know how to operate an insurance service. They told me my insurance was due for renewal, but wouldn't tell me how much it was ! I went to the dealer and they reckoned it would be about 22,000 baht ( for a one year old Nissan Navara ). You also have to pay the government minimum insurance premium too, about 1,100 baht. We opted to change our insurance company to Muang Thai and got full cover for 16,300 baht. It's not as easy to shop around for insurance here, but it is worth the effort.

You don't have to have any other insurance than the one you buy with your road tax,i think it's about 700 baht.

For a clunker yes and alot of Thais have no insurance or drivers licence . For somebody with a million baht vehicle without insurance is a fool.

Just a thought, most Thai Insurance companies do not give you an indication of alternative premiums if you offer to pay a compulsory excess. I always offer to pay the first 5000b because it wouldnt be worth the hastle of going through the insurance formalities for a small prang. That usually decreases my premium by around 5000b for the year so I believe a wise move! I pay only 11,000b for 1st class insurance on a 2008 Dmax 4x4 ,4door.

Have to agree with Gotlost, no-one in their right mind would accept the 700b compulsory insurance on a valuable vehicle. That guy must be in the Honda Wave Owners Club or just drunk!

Prakhonchai Expat Services helped both Toffo and Thaitanik (amongst many others) obtain excellent cover at a reasonable price.   party12

As Thaitanik says, a 5000bt excess secures a huge reduction, and avoids all the hassle for a minor damage claim.

Not at all Nookie - I thought that as you were recommending someone, in competition to services Nick and I provide, the least I could do was to recommend one of your competitors.  slapfight
