Dummy police officers will be installed on main roads in the Northeast in a bid to calm dangerous drivers during the New Year celebrations.
Region 3 commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phanu Kerdlarpphol said several dummies equipped with built-in surveillance cameras and speed detectors will be deployed at busy areas of the main roads in Pak Chong and Muang districts of Nakhon Ratchasima, where traffic is expected to be particularly heavy during the festive season, and along the Mittraphap highway.
They will be installed before and during the New Year holidays, when traffic congestion is common and revellers might ignore road rules.
The cameras and speed detectors inside the dummies will transmit information to the police stationed at nearby checkpoints.
