Binge Drinking in the UK
« on: October 10, 2011, 03:12:16 PM »
SPECIAL REPORT: Why do intelligent young women who are nurses, teachers and mothers drink themselves to oblivion every night across Britain?

Midnight on St Mary Street in Cardiff and everything is exactly as expected. Half a dozen young women slump in a gutter, men urinate outside a health-food shop and, as hordes stagger between nightclubs, someone lifts up a blow-up doll with a sex toy protruding out of it.

The street smells of urine and lager, police struggle  to break up a fight outside the Walkabout bar and a paramedic bundles a comatose girl on to a wheelchair. But it's a quiet night for 20-year-old Naomi Jenkins. She has 'only' drunk three shots of peach schnapps, cider and three shots of Jagermeister (during a drinking game called I Have Never) and still feels 'a bit sober'. Her friend Hannah Freeman, 19, was punched in a fight and stumbles about swearing and searching for a bathroom.

'We only do embarrassing things when we're really drunk,' Naomi says. 'I kiss random men in the street and Hannah has had sex behind a chicken coop.' She screams with laughter as Hannah lurches unsteadily in the stairwell of Charleston Bar and Grill on Caroline Street (known locally as Chip Alley) and unashamedly urinates in front of us

Binge drinking or heavy episodic drinking is the modern epithet for drinking alcoholic beverages with the primary intention of becoming intoxicated by heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time. Due to the long-term effects of alcohol misuse, binge drinking is considered to be a major public health issue. We cannot blame them for doing that. Its their way to leave stress and have fun. According to new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, binge drinking costs all Americans $2 per drink. That does not consist of the cost of the specific drink. Reduced productivity, property and medical problems and the cost of incarceration are just some of the factors. Binge drinking costs each of us $2 per drink. Public and private health care spend $96 billion annually, $30.9 billion of which is paid out in smoking-caused Medicaid distributions. Second-hand smoke exposure translates into $4.98 billion in health care expenditure.

I would be interested in knowing where those stats for $2 per drink  came from and how exactly they are compiled. Compiling accurate info from intoxicated people is a futile endevor and compiling accurate info from Sober people about the night before is almost always embelished or downplayed.  There are some things that are very difficult to quantify. One could also say staying up late watching too much TV is costly because of lost productivity but how do you establish it was the latenight tv and not just pure laziness on their part.   I think binge drinking is stupid and I have a feeling those idiots that participate in such behavior will cost society far more than $2 a drink.....whether they drink or not. Their drinking is symptomatic of other issues.  Their low self esteem, lack of respect for themselves and others and their entitlement mentality will cost society billions and billions during their lifetime.  brick1

As to Soi 6 binge drinking....... Ive heard too many stories about the drunk farang that went to sleep with a beautiful thai girl and woke up with a beautiful ladyboy. :D
