OK. That member was banned so I suggest to move on and have a more civilized level of conversation.
It is a serious subject right now there are many protests around the world because of the drop down in the economy and its not only in England, its just that in England it was with much violence, some suggest they are anarchists, but many people even not the violent ones are very frustrated from their own country economy, people are going to work every day and still can't pay the bills.
It is called 'Cost Of Living'.
More people demand their government to change have more Socialism and less Capitalism.
Is it possible? moneysmile

I admire the way Cameron, effectively, said that he was not going to let human rights stand in the way of clamping down on the riots.

Quite right. Let's see if he has the balls to take on the PC brigade. In my book you sacrifice any human right if you engage in a criminal act.

Happy Larry, agreed but he also said they'd be kicked out of their council houses and benefits withdrawn which was fairly reactionary and ignorant. This will force them into rental accommodation controlled by criminals and into more crime to get what they want!

This was a problem of our own making allowing this to fester. A recent document release stated over 80% of the Tottenham families have no male role model, or no father add to that 70% have one member of the family with a criminal record!

Whatever the solution it must be dealt with ruthlessly and an example made of those involved.

cameron is not above the human rights law thankfully, convicted prisoners are going to be allowed to vote.
why because the european court of human rights said so,they may be criminals but they are still human.and the british government will be breaking the law if they don't conform to what the european court has said.
we all have to abide by the law even GOVERNMENTS.

jamie,

I wouldn't disagree with anything you have said. I have no desire to see a shift to the far right but I am pissed off with all the pandering to left-wing do-gooders, who no f*ing good at all.

I don't think any government has the ability to solve all the ills that have beset the UK  (England for the Celtic nationalists!). However, the sooner one starts to dismantle some of the more damaging rules and regulations the better. And, yes, let's start with immigration.

Totally agree with you Larry. It's both left and right, too easy under left and too punitive under right (ok I'm generalising) but this is reactive!

Cameron has stated he aims to learn from the Scottish police. The Strathclyde police learned from the LA police after the LA riots and they handle 6 Old Firm (Rangers V Celtic) games per year and that's not easy. Such crowd control crimes are down in Scotland. It's a pity they didn't take advice from specially trained police in Scotland before this? Everything seems to be re-active and not pro-active!

Two interesting points from Cameron's speech..

1. The police told him they got their tactics wrong and approached as crowd control NOT a riot.
2. They were too soft being mindful of the constant critisisms from left-wing Councils over 'stop and search' tactics.

Those left-wing Councils are now complaining that businesses were not protected by police!

I can only give credit to the police for admitting to an error, for Cameron for making it public.

i can think of a few other things we can give the police and cameron, but it certainly would not be CREDIT.

I didn't particularly like Thatcher or Blair - but I admired some of what each of them did.

Back to judging people on what they do and not what their backgrounds are.
