The Welsh...... well, they have their sheep and are probably still burning holiday cottages owned by the English.

Technically, Wales is not a country like Scotland, Ireland and England. It was taken and held as part of England before the Act of the Union which is why there is no Welsh flag incorporated in the Union Flag unlike England, Scotland and N. Ireland!

All Scandanavians are not the same so to put Sweden then 'other Scandanavian countries' is insulting as well!

All Thai's are not the same either!!!

I could go into detail and define what a country is by the UN charter! Scotland is not a country either as we cannot have a country within a country! Just because it has an anthem, a flag and football team it does not mean it is a country in its own right; these are agreements by governing bodies such as FIFA! As an example the UK provides one team for the Olympics but separate teams for football as we have separate leagues! As for so-called national anthems, these are accepted rather than approved! To have a 'national anthem a country must be a nation and Wales is not! Scotland objected to the UK national anthem being sung on the ground of verse 6 (to slay the rebellious Scots. As fir anthems, even Counties have them!

To go back to the facts. The United Kingdom was formed by the Act of the Union in 1707 by England, Scotland and Ireland, all being separate Kingdoms (hence UK) and therefor separate countries1 Wales was not included in the Act of the Union as it was already governed by England which is why the Welsh flag is not in the UK flag!

Cornwall was also seen as a separate nation, with a separate language, lie Wales it was Celtic but was, like Wales swallowed up by England!

Candy, I welcome your opinion but when you begin with bo***cks and then proceed to make yourself look ignorant it is better you look at the facts first! I was not giving an opinion I was stating  facts!

Wales (/ˈweɪlz/ ( listen), Welsh: Cymru;[4] pronounced [ˈkəmrɨ] ( listen)) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain,[5] bordered by England to its east and the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea to its west. It has a population of three million, and a total area of 20,779 km² (8,023 sq mi). Wales has over 1,200 km (746 mi) of coastline, including its offshore islands; the largest, Anglesey (Ynys Môn), is also the largest island in the Irish Sea. Generally mountainous, its highest mountains are in the north and central areas, especially in Snowdonia (Eryri), which contains Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), its highest peak.

And Wallace,  as in William Wallace means Welshman

I rather like the banter.

There are actually only 195 independant countries in the world. Could be 194 depending on which way you look at Taiwan.

England, Scotland , Wales and N Ireland do not appear on the list. The UK does.

Now this is, of course, only politacally speaking. The 4 members of the UK cannot "politically" be called a country as none of them have a totally independant Government.

I would call myself either British or English. I am not that bothered. (some people have called me other things in the past whistle)

I also feel that if any of the members of the UK wanted total independance then nobody should be allowed to get in their way.

That actually goes for any of the 60+ non independant countries around the world.

Don't tell me you got that from Wikipedia  mhihi mhihi mhihi

The UN defines a country by international recognition. However, it is understandable to refer to it in such a manner, but legally, Wales is a Principality!

Some confuse Geography, History and Politics! I had an interesting debate with an Irish (Republic) mate when it said on TV Ireland was part of the British Isles! He went bananas. But the simple fact of the matter is that Ireland is part of the British Isles, in Geographical terms (like mentioning the weather); the same manner applies that England and Wales are in the Irish Sea and France is in the English Channel

You are what it says on your passport and if a country does not issue a passport it is not a country!

Just to make it more complicated Fife in Scotland is not referred as a town, city or county but the Kingdom of Fife as it never signed the UK Charter! If you drive into Fife you will see the signs ''welcome to the Kingdom of Fife''!
