Good news!  The pro-Israeli lobby in US is far too strong, and has been ever since the creation of the state of Israel (in 1948, I think).  Instead of the establishment of Israel, US should have been willing to accept the Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe just as (some years later) Britain accepted Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.  The smart well-educated Jews from Western Europe were never the problem.

Instead the US created the insoluble Palestinian problem.

Agreed, Nick, the whole country was a big mistake, perhaps the biggest political mistake of the twentieth century.  Why Israel, which meant expropriating other people's land, and not Kurdistan, which had the land already?

There is a lot to learn and read before posting things like this, Israel was always the land of Jewish people, there are evidences all over the country, Jews have lived in the Land of Israel continuously for the last 3300 years at least.
It is written in all 3 religion/history books (Bible,New Testament and Quran).
The one and only place which can be called HOMELAND is Israel (Which the UN recognize this FACT) and no other place, the history has taught and prove it continuesly over the years in the history and may I suggest also present and future.. There is no safer place for Jews other than Israel and the reason the country need to be so powerful and strong is because the threats and hate around the world and its closer neighbors, and no...Its not about land but about religion.


History

State of Israel Gives Jews a Homeland

As part of the 19th-century Zionist movement, Jews had begun settling in Palestine as early as 1820. This effort to establish a Jewish homeland received British approval in the Balfour Declaration of 1917.

U.S. recognition came within hours. The next day, Arab forces from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq invaded the new nation. By the cease-fire on Jan. 7, 1949, Israel had increased its original territory by 50%, taking western Galilee, a broad corridor through central Palestine to Jerusalem, and part of modern Jerusalem. Chaim Weizmann and David Ben-Gurion became Israel's first president and prime minister. The new government was admitted to the UN on May 11, 1949.

Its not about land but about religion.

Most if not all of todays problems are religion based.   

Instead on nuking the middle east, perhaps banning all religions would be the answer.

Thanks for your detailed post, Admin.  Yes, the Jews were given the Holy Land.... and proceeded to lose it through corruption and bloodymindedness (stiff-necked is the Biblical word.).  I believe there were always some Jews left in 'Palestine" (got to call it something) but as you say, there was no major movement back until the nineteenth century.  It is not reasonable to expect the world to turn back history for 1700 years. 

Modern Israel is a US puppet state;  it was largely created through US influence, financed with US money, and backed consistently by the Jewish lobby in the US.  I am not belittling the achievements of the Jewish settlers in 'greening the desert', and I have a lot of admiration for Jewish cleverness, especially in science and finance, but that does not give them the right to turn back history.  The UN then, as now, was largely dominated by US interests.
