German Forger Arrested
Pattaya Daily News 2010-02-22

A middle-aged German member of a gang of forgers was arrested in Pattaya in possession of a massive amount of equipment for producing millions of fake Baht. Apprehension of the other gang members is expected soon.

Pattaya, 21st February 2011 [PDN]: At approximately 9.00 pm Lt. Col. Kreetha Tonkhanarat, Superintendent of Children & Woman Protection Center Region 2 and a team of inspectors executed a plan to apprehend a middle-aged German who was a member of a black money gang.

The German man had deceived a German tourist into participating in his venture. The victim then informed police that he had been asked to pay 10,000 baht for purchasing the equipment needed to produce the fake money. Accordingly a sting operation was set up, in which an appointment was made for the two to meet and to exchange the equipment for 10,000 baht in cash. The place chosen was the car park at Top Supermarket, on the corner of Central Pattayab Road and 2nd Road.

At the appointed time, the German suspect was apprehended by the police taskforce when he appeared carrying baggage that was later found to contain lots of evidence. The suspect was known Mr. Peter-Jurgen Gramm (56), a German national according to the arrest warrant. The evidence he was carrying included 3 bottles of chemical solutions, 2 rolls of foil paper, 2 rolls of tape papers, about 1,000 pieces of black and green hard papers cut to the size of a 1,000 baht bank note and the victim’s cash of 10,000 in 10 1,000 baht bank notes. All items were impounded for evidence.

Mr. Peter-Jurgen denied being the producer of fake money. However he claimed to the victim at 10,000 baht in order to let him try making fake money. If the result was successful, the amount of money invested would be increased up to 100,000 baht. In addition, the items in the baggage were sufficient for producing money approximated at several million baht. The suspect planned to sell the product for the victim if he so wished.

Enquiries into the case are continuing, particularly into how many others have been duped into this scheme.

Alleged counterfeiter caught in sting in central Pattaya
22nd February 2011

A 55-year-old German national with an expired passport was arrested by undercover police from the Region 2 Women and Child Protection Unit after attempting to sell materials used to counterfeit banknotes. Mr Peter-Jurgen Gramm, from Germany, was arrested in front of Tops supermarket on Monday and found to be in possession of chemicals and paper material used in the production of counterfeit money. The man was taken back to Pattaya police station where he confessed to his actions and where it was also found his passport had expired six days earlier. Mr Gramm had come to official notice after someone he had tried to interest in buying his chemicals and papers had contacted police. Undercover officers posing as buyers then made contact with the German national and, carrying 10,000 baht in marked banknotes, met with him outside Tops supermarket. At the station Mr Gramm showed officers how the chemicals and paper were used to make counterfeit money in what is commonly known as a “Black Money Scam”.
