Pro Thai - a safer life for Thai children
« on: January 01, 2011, 02:31:55 PM »
I am Kurt Blomqvist, a pensioner Swedish journalist, who lives in Thailand, for more then 5 years now. Here I and a friend have started the non-profit organization Pro Thai, an organization which try to give the children in Thailand a better and safer life, especially concerning the dangerous traffic situation in the country and to improve the environment in the schools. See www.fokusthailand.com
You can read about Pro Thai in a Bangkok Post article in November at this link:
http://www.bangkokpost.com/feature/people/206000/on-the-road-to-a-safer-thailand

Thanks to sympathetic farangs we have till now been able to give reflectors (TAA FAI in Thai) and textbooks how to behave in the traffic to about 25 000 schoolchildren. We are absolutely convinced that children have to get education about the traffic already at school. So as we do in our countries.
The schools which have got this material are situated all over the country, in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai,  and particularly in Buriram region, because I have a house in Ban Kruat.
School desks
A year ago I found a school in Ban Kruat where the children didn’t have desks and chairs at all to sit. They sat on the floor, trying to learn to write and read. And there are more schools like that school in the region. Pro Thai has now designed and produced  ergonomic desks and chairs, based on research. This furniture set is unique in that way that the desks and chairs are vertically adjustable. That means that they can grow with the children.
100 sets are now produced and given to a school in Ban Kruat. In the beginning of January I go Ban Kruat to start a new production for one school in Udon Thai and another school in Chiang Mai, sponsored by two Englishmen. I have set up a small factory for production outside my house in Ban Kruat.
As you understand this mission can’t be realized by only a small number of people. But many together we can do great things. As I know there are many farangs living in Buriram region. I ask you now if you think  we can do something together. My vision is to put Buriram on the map as a region where there are people who care for the children’s safety in the traffic and well-being  in the school. Buriram region can become a model region in this respect.
Looking forward for your answer.
Best greetings and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
