Nearest DHL to Buriram

Where is the nearest DHL to Buriram?  I heard Korat, but in their website they claim to serve all 76 provinces (but give NO addresses).  I need this for my passport renewal (which Admin at least must be getting fed up with by now!);  EMS will not do.

What exactly do you want to do? EMS do this kind of delivery.
I have a friend here from England claiming last year he renewed his passport in Bangkok and did it by EMS, it took 12 days.

PS:
EMS is acceptable by the British embassy also.
When they return your passport they are using EMS service as well.

You will have to go to the post office and get a postal order for payment to the embassy.
this payment is for your new passport and also return post to you by EMS.

You can no longer go through the British Embassy in Bangkok. You must send applications to Hong Kong.

The nearest DHL,for sending purposes, is indeed Khorat. They will deliver to all 76 provinces.

Sending to Hong Kong by EMS is indeed no problem. EMS is secure and all letters need to be signed for upon delivery.

You cannot use a  postal order. Use the credit card payment form on the British Consulate Hong Kong website.

This enables you to pay for your passport and a return delivery,by DHL. All the fees are listed on the website.

You are now able to use debit cards issued by Thai banks with Mastercard or Visa logos.

The alternative is to use a bankers draft that has to be made out in Hong Kong dollars and acceptable by Standard Chartered Bank. These are not available in Buriram. I have even heard of guys in Bangkok having trouble getting hold of them.

As you are resident in Thailand you do not have to send your passport. Just send a copy of the data/photo page.

A full and complete reply Steve. The only problem will be obtaining the correct bio-metric photo locally. The Br Embassy website gives clear instructions, but my local (large) Kodak shop  could not understand the clearly laid out pictures and it took 3 attempts to get it right.

Thanks, Starman and Nick.  A small problem.... I do not have a credit card (or indeed a debit card), so I have to get hold of a Banker's draft somehow.  I will wrestle with the photo...and maybe delay getting the draft until I next go to Chiangmai.

Unless you are totally against holding a debit card, I would recommend a trip to your local Thai Bank (Kasikorn recommended) -and open an account for which a debit card will be provided immediately. If you so wish, you could cancel the account after the transaction has been made.

Will be easier and cheaper than getting a bankers draft in HK Dollars.

securely sent $$via Fed Ex & Uspostal service>,at BKK customs a fed ex rep would sign & guarentee item delivery in Buriram>standard mail worked until  thai postal pocketed cash>maybe fed ex is a delivery option

I find that my ordinary KTB ATM card also calls itself a debit card, and is Visa, so I'll use that.

Haven't tried yet (I'm not in town that often!).  I'll report any success (and maybe any failure!)

I'm in no great hurry, Starman.  My Thai visa runs out at the end of March, and the current British Passport extends to Feb 2012.  My plan was to get the new passport before I do the visa renewal (which will be about March 15 to coincide with the 90 days report) so that I don't have to go to Korat a second time to have the stamp transferred into the new passport.

I originally intended to do it on a visit to Chiangmai about Jan 13 (for ease of getting photos, bank draft etc), but because of all the information members have given me on this forum, and also the fact that my trip to Chiangmai is postponed, I now expect to do it here as soon as I have got the photo.

I will send by EMS, and use the bank Debit Card for payment, which will mean that they can deduct the payment for sending the new passport back.

I'm quite happy to cooperate by combining with you, but I think the difficulties probably outweigh the advantages;  I live 20 kms from A. Muang, half way between Huai Rat and Krasang,  and have to rely on borrowed transport (I don't drive) to get there.  PM me if you think we might cooperate!
