I don't feel safe on any aircraft... only way is just to take it as it comes.  Only lost one friend in an air crash so far... and that was a long while ago, so it's maybe time for the next (or me?).

Although it looks pretty bad, we can be thankful that there were no injuries.

I think I'd be OK with flying it, even though a relatively new engine.

Even long standing engine designs can sometimes have catastrophic failures.   The Pratt & Whitney JT8D was one of the most utilized engines in air transport for a couple of decades (last century 555)...and check out this link, as an example.

If you ever get on a motorbike in Thailand you are many hundreds of times more likely to be killed than in an aircraft incident!

Just like in the UK you are more likely to be murdered than win the biggy in the lottery.   All Statistics when your number is up! it's up.

Air Travel is safest form of travel fatalities per 100,000 miles

All engines are liable to fail during their working life, but the worrying aspect in this case is that it was uncontained.....

All the years I worked in a Aircraft engine overhaul shop I seen 2 engine turbine sections blow up....it is very rare but this A380 engine problem is big in the news because the aircraft is new.....my experience there is no engine really any better than the other whether it's RR or GE or PW.......it's mostly customer preference....Aviation is still the safest way to travel....

We had more engine in the shop from bird strikes that failure of the engines....a big bird does major damage.....

No. They've gone downhill and won't recover from the glory years.
