NGV or LPG?
« on: September 13, 2010, 12:58:10 PM »
thinking to convert my old corolla to LPG or NGV, talked with soem Taxis and their opinions are varies between LPG because its more reliable to the NGV taxis saying LPG smell bad and more expensive than NGV.
what is the effect on the engine, I would think NGV better system as many Taxis are converting to this system, but I'm not sure about that. maybe you can advise here.

As far as I'm aware....Diesels can only use NGV...............Petrol engines can only use LPG

NGV is also work with Petrol engines, actually, most of the new Toyota altis Taxis are powered by NGV and not LPG.
Mostly because of NGV price is cheaper than LPG (Today rates: NGV = 8.50 Baht/Liter).

Taxis tend to like LPG because less waiting line in the LPG gas station and can make higher milage between the need to get into gas station for fuel.

If you not drive far distances, I think after awhile this conversion will cost you more than save money, you need to maintain the system, not to mention the wearing and tearing of the engine.
If you drive often and for far distances I would recommend, if not, I wouldn't do the conversion.

What would be the cost for a LPG conversion?

Around 15,000-40,000~ Baht.

Depend on the place and kind of car you want to convert.

I'm not sure it justify the conversion if you are just using it for daily usage/normal usage.

If you are doing Taxi or drive really alot for long distances I would think its a good idea to do conversion.

There are running costs / Service the system.

Some opinions saying its  not that good for the engine so you will have to take care of it also if you want to keep the engine in good condition while using the system, that means, that you MAY have to pay big amount to fix/restore the engine tear parts after few years using the system?!

Some are saying its nonsense and all fine and normal, but for how long they have this system?

Talking with Taxi drivers over the years I came to conclusion that's it is best to stay with the traditional manufactured recommended specs and fuel.

Any more inputs on this subject are welcome. sawadi
