Festival set to boost businessJune 3, 2010 by TTRweekly Staff
BANGKOK 3 June, 2010 – Tourism Authority of Thailand will spend Bt75 million to host the Thailand Tourism Festival due to open 9 June at the Impact Muang Thong Thani.
The five-day show running to 13 June will feature 368 booths mainly tourism companies and resort hotels supported by booths displaying OTOP products from around the country.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand estimates 200,000 to 300,000 visitors will attend over five days. Last year, the event lasted 10 days and cost TAT Bt100 million to host. It should generate Bt250 million in revenue for exhibitors.
TAT governor, Suraphon Svetasreni, said he hoped the event would ease tension and encourage Thais to travel and explore their own country.
“After political unrest, the festival should help tourism entrepreneurs that suffered from the upheaval.â€
The event coincides with the TAT’s 50th anniversary, and will focus on new destinations, cultural performances, as well as the latest tourism technology and innovation used to promote tourism.
TAT will also hold a seminar on the last day, 13 June, under the theme of
“Tourism without boundaries: The Road to Nowhereâ€. Aimed at state agencies, tourism-related private companies, educational institutions and private development organisations, the seminar will look at opportunities and challenges facing the local travel industry.
Impact Exhibition Management advisor to the chairman, Taweesak Dheerakiatkumchorn, noted that the exhibition had grown every year since it was launched in 2007 and should represent 60,000 sqm of paid floor space."
