I'm kinda leaning towards a 3.2 Ranger Ranger at the moment. Hilux would be the safe bet I know but ........the Wildtrack looks pretty!!!

I pretty much buy fords.  And have not been disappointed.

I bought a 2010 Wildtrak, the limited slip differential has paid for itself many times.  That means I have never in the past 4+ years ever needed a 4 x 4.  Just the last month I was a foot deep in mud, and powered out of it with a very dirty truck.

I would buy another Ford Truck, which would be my 4th.  I had a 1982 F-F150, and 1995 Explorer (which I still own and drive when in the US), and my 2010 Willdtrak.

That is in addition to the 1984 Escort, 1988 Thunderbird, 1989 tiempo, 1998 Mountaineer, and 2001 Continental.  Never regreted any of those vehicles.

Agree that unlikely to need the 4x4 but want the 3.2 and auto so the wife can drive it too so looks like I'll end up with the 4x4

Up to you Freddy.  But I sold fords for a year at a dealership.   What I learned is that  4X4 means you just get stuck in more inaccessable places.   (I high centered a truck on a sand dune.)

However, an automatic 4x4 is a great truck, and I would buy one if I could justify the additional cost.

Not planning on buying another any time soon and will comfort myself with the thought that it would cost me £10k more in the UK. Gonna sleep on it but reckon I'll sign on the dotted line in the morning

Just a heads up if you have any thoughts of aftermarkets adds ons do yourself a favor and don't buy the look good shyt that all the Thais have on their trucks. Its totally useless. Go with ARB their out of Oz and their kit is tops.

I agree about Fords - I had many in the UK and for a company car I could get a much higher status vehicle for my allowance.

I believe Toyota are the best trucks but I bought a Ford Ranger because the price was fair and they had a great 0% finance deal. Ford at Nang Rong and Buriram have been great and they have been well trained to provide decent service. I agree with Keith about the automatic and I didn't feel I could justify the extra cost - next time I might stretch the budget

I agree with the Ford Widetrak BUT by all indications Ford is still not selling it in Thailand withe the 3.2 only the the 2.2 and this is why my friend went with the Isuzu D-Max.

Urleft,

if it gives you peace of mind, go for it but don't expect it to get you anything else in Prakhon Chai or Kap Choeng -- at least that is my opinion which will no doubt differ from others. I have never been able to use my yellow book to any advantage, for instance, driving license, hospital etc., and at Kap Choeng on re-newing my visa extension they just hand me back the copies. That's happened for the last three extension re-newals. I've read different reports from other areas where the yellow book IS accepted, but then I don't live in those other areas.....

I have had a yellow house book for 8 years and have NEVER had to or been able to use it. As far as I'm concerned it is only good for wiping your a-- in an emergency. Oh it will give you bragging rights around the bar.

Yes, agree and it means little in a Thai Court of Law.

Thanks for the replies regarding Yellow Book. If I can get by on the certificates of Residence for the things I need then I agree, far to many hoops to jump through for little additional benefit.

Gotlost. 3.2 Litre Wildtrack definitely available in Thailand (don't know for how long) but available now. have 4 at Buriram Ford all ready to go. Only available in 6 speed auto version and come with quite a lot of extra kit compared to model below.

I agree with the comments about Thai styling kits. Have seen them and look bloody awful both in appearance and quality.

In that case its a no brainer grab the Ford with the 3.2. and go with ARB.

Khun G. That explains a lot. Ford will not budge on the price for the 3.2 and offer very few xtra incentives ( 1000THB) of fuel, picnic box and a cover). When negotiating with Toyota they offer tons but still I like the Ford. Pretty much made my mind up. Ford it is.

Gotlost. Agree about the styling add-onskit. They showed me, look crap both in appearance and quality. I'm just gonna go with a glass tint and window visor for now. Can always tag bits on later if feel the need but to be honest, the 3.2 comes fully loaded as it is.
