Online TV launchedThe National News Bureau of Thailand is launching new online media channels on its first 24-hour English-language Online TV before expanding to TV satellite and monthly publications.
Ampawan Charoenkul, Director of the National News Bureau of Thailand and spokesperson of the Public Relations Department, said the state-owned agency was spending 50 million baht to upgrade its IT system and production to launch thainews.prd.go.th.
The site will publicise strategic policies and special campaigns promoted by the Thai government and government agencies which will be delivered through various formats such as news, exclusive interviews, special reports and documentaries especially for Thailand's first 24-hour English-language Online TV.
"The site may not be neutral but our main focus is fair, accurate and reliable news. We see that this online channel will help us to reach Internet users, especially foreigners informing them about what's happening in Thailand," Ampawan said.In addition, the site also opened up new channels of social networking tools Facebook and Twitter to support the news dissemination to audiences worldwide. This is considered the first time that the government news agency has adopted these new tools for its publications," Ampawan said.
Currently, there are 200,000 visitors per month but she expects that within a year the site should reach 400,000 visitors per month and the content will be available on mobile phones in the near future.
Moreover, this content will broadcast through the satellite TV in two channels both in Thai and English in C- band by October.
