Benefits:

Yellow House Book, I used when renewing my Driving License, it was duly accepted without having to go to Immigration to get a Letter of Residence !

Id Card: No idea yet of the Benefits, but a friend of mine uses it all the time to identify himself at Banks ? I use my passport ;)

If you use the office in Buriram to renew your licence you do not need to go to immigration. A 10 minute trip to the police station to get a letter of residence is sufficient.

Didn't know, I just showed up with my Yellow House Book at the DLT and it was oke, nothing else required.

Did you get your yellow book from Krasang District? What are the requirements?

Muang district is a pain. That is why I haven't bothered.

Yep Krasang.

I posted those requirements A LONG TIME AGO (will try to find the Post)

It was a pain, and you only could get if you were married.

Found it:

Quote
- Original Wedding Certificate and 2-3 copies
- Wifes Tabien Baan and Id card and copies
- Original Passport with 2-3 copies
- 3 witnesses (No Family), I brought Village Chief, Obotor and a Friend from Krasang.
- All witnesses need to bring their Tabien Baan and Id card with 2-3 copies
- 2 (or 3) can't remember 2" Pictures of yourself (important is that they use a white background when taking the picture and also the size (2") is important).
- a Picture which must have the related family and the Witnesses all in one shot.
- The Full name of both Your Father and Mother translated into Thai (this was done by my Niece and it was accepted (no questions asked (Phew that saved me a trip to BKK ;))
- Your Full Name in Thai but that is no problem as it's already on your Wedding Certificate and Ledger (KR 2 and KR 3)
- All witnesses, and your wife have to fill in a form (2 sides) which states something like that Mr ..... Age .... Nationality...... etc etc is really living at that address etc etc

Quite a long list. As a reference, you would not need to take a trip to BKK to get translations. There are at least two members on here that provide such a service.

As I mentioned before, Muang district and some others are also now insisting that the passport translation is certified by the MFA. That does mean a trip to BKK.

The list may well have been stream lined now. When I first moved here ( Lam Plaimat) and enquired about a Yellow book and ID the list was  Rey long and required a trip to Bangkok.
When I tried again a year or so ago it was relatively simple and all done pretty muc( based on m6 passport and the village head man attending.

If you think my list was long, in Pattaya back then you even had to tell them what Blood Type you have ;)

When I send Mr. Bob to the Thai Post Office to send a package, or when he mails a document to the United States, he has a choice to show his US Passport, his US Passport CARD or his pink Thai alien ID card. Same THREE OPTIONS when he buys a SIM card at many phone dealers in Buriram. If you have taken the effort to successfully obtain the yellow house book, then 60 baht is a worthwhile expense for a pink Thai ID card. If the expat is over the age of 60 then it is a onetime 60 baht expensive.
