Crate and Rebuilt Engines. New and Rebuilt Transmissions.
« on: July 13, 2015, 03:49:29 PM »
Does anyone have any experience in purchasing the following for a used pickup (i.e. Toyota Hilux Vigo, Isuzu D-MAX, etc.)?
- Crate engine (NOTE: short block - everything between the cylinder head and the oil pan (excluding those items), long block - a short block, with mounted and gasketed cylinder head, valves and camshaft, crate engine - often more than a long block, including intake manifold, and carburetor or fuel injection system, and perhaps an alternator.) It is basically a complete engine that requires just bolting in and wiring and hoses connected.  Crate engines are typically new engines purchased from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
- Rebuilt engines
- New automatic transmissions from OEM
- Rebuilt automatic transmissions

I am interested in cost, quality, availability, and guarantee.

I am also interested in a shops’ skill at installing the aforementioned.

I suppose no one has any practical experience with purchasing a crate or rebuilt engine or a new or rebuilt automatic transmission and installation in a used pickup in Thailand.

davureborn and Nobby,  Thanks.  WILCO. Already asking the question there.

I just thought that this topic would fall under "repair shops" in the "Isaan Motor Forum" and that some Buriram Expat members might have experience replacing engines and transmissions, particularly in Isaan.

I screwed up the gearbox and as a consequence the clutch, on the old truck. The guys took the box apart and fixed it, mounted new clutch plates in one day. I can't remember how much I paid but it wasn't expensive. Still ok after three years. Shabby looking place just over the railway crossing going to Tiwikit on that side.
Somewhere near Big C on the other side there is a big shop displaying what look like reconditioned motors.
It sounds to me that you are in need of a translator that can take you to a shop that can do the job. They will know where to get your stuff.

Last year my local mechanic bought and fitted a toyota 4.2 litre, V8 engine for me. The job was very well done. He ordered the engine from Bangkok and said that he would never buy from the breakers yards here in Buriram. When the engine arrived in Buriram it was stripped and rebuilt.

If you would like the full details then let me know.

It is true that you will need translation. That is something that I can help you with .

Starman,

I'll remember that for the future.

Thank you.
