Grape vine supplier and advice
« on: August 12, 2016, 12:41:30 PM »
I would like to buy a few grape vine plants.  Is there someplace where they are sold please?
Also advice on getting started with them.  Just for eating not wine.

Saw some vines in Lamplaimat plant market last time I was there (near the post office). Not sure if this market is there every day or just when the thrice monthly Lamplaimat market happens. Personally I wouldn't even try, but there is a wine farm signalled on the road between Korat and Saraburi, somewhere.

They sell them at the OTOP markets. The vendors usualy have good knowledge on the plants they sell, but you will need the Wife at hand to translate.

OTOP Means one Tambon One Product. As I understand it's a group of people who produce a diverse range of products and get together under the OTOP name to sell. they hold markets all over the place. The one we use mostly is when they visit Krasang.
You will have to access the Jungle Telegraph to find out when they might be in your area. We have always been pleased with the quality of plants we have bought there.

Difficult to grow here, they grow well on poor well draining soil such as Kao Yai (where the wine farms are). They like hills. I have tried a few times, but only rarely got some fruit.

Thank you  Will try the OTOP. We are just on the edge of a small village in rice growing territory and have about 2 rai.  Just starting to grow lots of veg and some fruit and would like to try for some grapes.  I see that starting grape vines from seeds can be complicated and hopefully can have some luck with vine plants already growing.
