Life insurance or what?
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:44:24 AM »
Hi guys

I want to give my wife a bit more security.
Right now she's happy with what I can give her, but what happens if I die?

So...
Can you help me finding a good solution?
The only way to deal with this is a life insurance, but maybe there is better here. (I'd still call myself a newbie here in Thailand)
Can you point me to a good insurance company or reliable agent?

Thanks

Putting it politely, I doubt that many here will agree with your intention to buy Life Insurance here. I think we all know of cases where naive husbands suddenly committed suicide. Your wife has a family that maybe see you as a money bank. Up to you anyway.
My wife will get a small but adequate pension when I pop my clogs, she gets this whether I want her to or not. She doesn't know this.
I myself am happily married but we have to stay lucid and rational, do we not?

Life Assurance in Thailand is very expensive compared to Europe.  Most Companies and their own agents only want to sell savings plans, rather than straightforward life assurance.

Your current age and health are important factors as is the amount of cover you are looking for.

Possibly a whole life assurance is what you need, but it will be difficult to obtain a quote just for this

If we can assist you, we have contact with life assurers and can obtain quotes for you.

I don't know what country you come from but is it not possible to have the whole life cover there. I'm moving over permanently in September.  I've already spoken to my life insurance company and they say no problem.  As long as the monthly premium is paid the policy stays in place wherever you live.

The UK prohibit life assurance companies from providing assurance for non residents. As long as you take out the insurance whilst still there, no problem. You can continue to pay whilst living overseas, but form the time you leave the UK, n amendments are possible.

I purchased life insurance from Bangkok Life Assurance earlier this year for two reasons:

To keep my wife from making hasty decisions when she should be thinking long term.

To obtain medical insurance as a rider without the exclusions required by other carriers.  I am 65 and my medical insurance options were between slim and none.  No medical insurance would make relocation decision very difficult.

Important to keep in mind the commission on life insurance is front-loaded as people tend to keep the policy in force so there will be pressure (but also the agent will have an investment in making sure you pass the health insurance examination.)

PM me for more information.
