Prakhonchai Expat Services are pleased to present their 5th three night discovery tour to Siem Reap, from where you can visit the world famous Angkor Wat. The price of 3,950 Baht per person (based on 2 people sharing a Superior room – Deluxe room 4,450 Baht) includes return minibus/coach travel from Prakhonchai to Siem Reap and 3 nights, plus breakfast, in the City River 3 star hotel.

For single travelers the cost will be circa 5,500 Baht or 6,450 Baht for Deluxe. Accommodation for single travelers is  provided at the Wooden Angkor hotel, the cost is 4,500 Baht for a Superior room and 4,950 Baht for a Deluxe room.

20 Feb 07.00 Leave Prakhonchai - arrive hotel by 13.00
21 Feb 09.00 Visit to Angkor Wat (optional)
22 Feb Free day - consider trip to floating villages on Tonle Sap
22 Feb Evening: Smile of Angkor - Cambodian cultural show (optional)
23 Feb 11.30 Depart hotel - arrive Prakhonchai approx 17.00

The itinerary allows time on the day of arrival to discover Siem Reap and perhaps visit the National Museum that has a whole floor dedicated to Buddha. A useful source of information prior to visiting Angkor Wat. There are several Buddhist temples in Siem Reap including Wat Preah which is close to the City River hotel. Alternatively, you may wish to relax with a glass of Angkor draft beer for 50 Cents (16 Baht) in Pub Street ! City River hotel is situated 5 minutes from the centre. The rooms are well-appointed with a fridge. Deluxe rooms are larger with balcony and tea/coffee making facilities. The roof top pool offers panoramic views of Siem Reap.                        www.cityriverhotel.com

How much could you fit into a 2-day trip ???

This is  a list of what I would want to see while in Siem Reap:

 1 ) Angkor Wat
 2 ) Bayon Temple
 3 ) Angkor Thom
 4 ) Ta Prohm
5 ) Banteau Srei – Can be done with Kabal Spean?
 6 ) Preah Khan
 7 ) Pre Rup
 8 ) Banteay Samre
 9 ) Phnom Bakheng

Do you think a traveller would be be able to fit all of this into 2 days in Siem Reap ???
I know most of it lies within the Angkor Archaelogical Park, but I hear it's quite massive...if not, what would you say are the MUST-SEE's vs. the "nice to see if you have time"

I've heard of people hiring drivers to get them to all these locations--is that something that Prakhonchai Expat Services could arrange to maximize your time there, or is it doable without a driver ???

Thanks so much!  WW

Welsh Wonder - I will attempt to answer your questions.

Banteay Srei and Kabal Spean can be done together. They are situate some 30/40 kms from Siem Reap, and Kabal Spean itself is on top of a mountain which realistically takes 1 hour to reach. Therefore whilst these 2 can be visited in 1 day, there would not be much time left for anything else.

The first 4 can easily be visited together, and depending on what time you started and how long you spent at each, could easily  be visited in a morning.. Most of our guests visit this group, and generally have seen enough by lunchtime.

6,7,8 and 9 are not much visited, but since they are within the main Angkor area, I would suggest they could be visited in the afternoon.

After that lot you would need to enjoy more than a few 50 cent draft Angkor beers in Pub Street!

Prakhonchai Expat Services can indeed arrange all the necessary transport from Siem Reap to take you  to all these fascinating locations. The choice is yours -either a tuk tuk or a taxi. Bring some friends and the costs are negligible.

Perhaps you would care to join us on our next trip on 20th February, which is already booking fast with 18 names to date.

I would just add that IMHO it is important not to try and do too much in a short period of time. If seeing "X" number of attractions is MOST important to you then add another day (or more) so you can view at your leisure. I believe that soaking up the ambiance is as important as the visit itself. I could not put a price on the sense of tranquility I felt trudging back from Kabal Spean, in a tuk tuk, as the sun was beginning to set. I would also suggest that some of the ambiance would have been lost if traveling by minibus.

Everyone will have a different view and holidays/sightseeing are very personal.  I would not have missed the cultural Smile of Angkor show with buffet - others would not perceive value at $38.

For me, half a day seeing the Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon is sufficient. That said, the trip to banteay srei and kabal spean was very worthwhile. Note: avoid wearing flip-flops for kabal spean - they are not conducive to walking 1700 metres uphill and over some parts of rough terrain. Also - think twice if you are carrying over 125 kgs in weight,or have a heart condition.

It is slightly disappointing that you must have an Angkor wat day pass to visit kabal spean because it means you cannot take it in on the way to Siem Reap from the border. A shame because there is also a very nice hillside restaurant en-route.

I have never made the effort to visit the temples at dawn or dusk  - those who do make the effort are suitably rewarded. A prefer the comfort of my bed or the call of the 50c Angkor draught (the latter at dusk!).

('draught' beer is the more traditional spelling).

It would however be possible to visit Kabal Spean and Banteay Srei on the last morning of a 3 day tour, by going there en-route to the border, obtaining an Angkor day pass in Siem Reap and taking lunch at the hillside restaurant, before departing Cambodia at the Choam border crossing.

Probably just me.  I was interested in the Sihanoukville tour in March but I have meetings to attend on the 15th.

What I want to do is travel from Buriram to Siem Reap and stay there a few days before going on to Phnom Penh and on to Sihanoukville for a couple of days before crossing into Thailand.  Basically the opposite journey of the March tour.

Don - obviously, anyone can arrange their own itinerary. We do benefit from having a team of suppliers that we work worth and we would be happy to put a trip together for you. Perhaps you can PM with what you would like to do and the sort of budget you may be working to i.e.do you want 5 star accommodation, back pack hostels or somewhere in between ?

We booked a 4 day trip for 3 guys last month and arranged taxis, minibus, hotels etc.

Regards

Ray

Have customers who have enquired about going to Siem Reap over Songkran.

We would not normally travel at this time but as they have expressed an interest in going I am happy to throw it out to others.

Full details to follow but perhaps leave Prakhonchai on Thursday 12th April for 3 or 4 nights.

Should anyone be interested please PM me or call 0860377468
