make visa at savannakhet - laos

On the 12.2.2012 I went to do "Non Immigrant O visa" at savnnakhet - laos.
I went a day before to Buriram central bus station for information and they said there is a bus to mugdahan (the border city in the thai side) at 02:30 in the night.
The ticket I can buy on the bus 234 Baht.
The bus went out of Buriram at about 03:00 and we got to mugdahan city at about 07:30.
From mugdahan I took a bus to the border 50 Baht.
In the Thai border just got stamp of departure and
the bus took me from there cross the Mekong river to the Laos border.
In the Laos border had to make visa 1500 Baht or 35$ and 1 photo. its good to bring dollars in advance so you can save more them 400 Baht.
After that, got arrival stamp and paid 40 Baht.
From there took took-took to the Thai consulate in savanakhet 150 Baht.
I arrive there just before the consulate was open at 09:00 a.m.
I fill in the visa application and gave the following document :
passport copy (photo page)
2 photos
marriage registration copy (khor ror 2)
marriage certificate copy 2 sides (khor ror 3)
my wife I.D. copy singed by her
my wife "tabian ban" (house book) copy singed by her
letter from my wife ask to give me visa singed by her

In the consulate they ask me to show the original marriage certificate (khor ror 3).
they took the passport and the charge for the visa was 5000 Baht.
I've been told to come next day at 14:00.
from there I took took-took 40 Baht to nong soda guest House.
Its a small guest House on the Mekong river with air-condition room.
not bad for 400 Baht.
The day after got 1 year visa multi entry and made all the way back.
arrive back to Buriram around  22:30 safe and happily with new 1 year visa.
All the journey took about 2 days and 8500 Baht include food, transportation, visa fees, etc.

I stayed in the Nongsoda Guesthouse on 8th and 9th!  But what a scramble at the two immigration offices on the border.  The bus I was on was full to bursting.  I didn't think much of Savannakhet;  an overgrown village, another traveller said to me.  Not a single decent restaurant with a view of the river.  But the beer is good (and the wine, people say, but I wouldn't want to drink a whole bottle with a meal).

If you don't want to go in the middle of the night, take a bus to Roi-Et at about 9.30.   Change at Payak (Payakkhapum Phisai), or if you miss the change (I did), you can go on to Roi-Et and catch a bus at 12.30 for Mukdahan.  I am not sure if you can go straight on to Savan;  if not, go to the Huanam Hotel in Muk, about B.300;  very basic, but clean and friendly.

What type of visa did you have before Mod ???
I've heard of guys that have been staying in Thailand on an extension based on marriage and then run short of money .They then go to Savannakhet and try for the Non Immigrant O visa mutli-entry visa and have been told they can only have a 3 month visa ( type 'O' based on marriage) and must go to their local Immigration to extend it to one year .
Has anyone been staying here in Thailand ( long term) and changed from an extension based on marriage to a 'Non Immigrant O visa mutli-entry visa'....... successfully  ???

Extensions based on retirement are the easiest to obtain with least amount of paperwork if you have the money .Why go all the way to KL to get a O Multi based on marriage when an extension can be obtain here for marriage ------------- no 400k in the bank or proof of 40k a month,at a guess  ::)
Bottom line is 'if you don't have money ,Thailand don't want yer ' and if you only have a little bit they will make sure they will get as much of it as they can,if you want to stay. moneysmile

You are absolutely right DaveDee ... all the other ways are measly ways to prevent being expulsed ... even with the mariage visum at 400.000 they try sometimes to make your life miserably ... on some occasions they want to come by and check where you supposidle live with your misus but they will not tell you when they come by ... and when you are not there the visum is forfeited ... if you are lucky to put up the 800.000 you can do it all yourself and you are fancy free !!!!

I offten wonder why they require 800k for retirement and only 400k for marriage. I guess they figure if your married she has the other 400k in GOLD> party3
