Nakhon Ratchasima is also the center of the Nakhon Ratchasima Metropolitan Area.

Buriram - Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) distance: 135~ kms:

Korat is a great place, not too big as Bangkok but also offer most things available in Bangkok, advantages: easy to navigate/tour the town and its tourist attractions , shopping in the big shopping center called "The Mall" (Located on Mittraphap road), pubs, bars, several Discos and much more....  crazydance

Give a visit when you are visiting Buriram  and you are on the way or if you are staying in Buriram and need some change, Korat might be the right place for yo if you don't want to travel to far distance.

One thing for sure, you female partner will love the trip everytime you go there.

Warning: "The Mall" is a male trap! (Heaven for women, nightmare for men), but hey, cheer up, at least she didn't drag you to one of Bangkok's huge markets/shopping centers..... then.....only then... you will be in REAL mess.  knuppel2 love5

There is a great music bar just at the righthand entrance to the basement level from the road. They even serve your beer in coffee mugs when its out of hours. VERY nice waitresses and lots of them.

Yes, I know the place, lovely waitresses and prices are not expensive also, always wondered how the food is, but if I'm already in "The Mall" there is no way and better alternative to 'SIZZLER'!!

http://sizzler.co.th/en/index.php

To explain those who don't know the restaurant:
For my opinion, its the best deal you will ever get in Thailand, lots of food, good food, not low quality but great, tasty, cheese (Even blue cheese), olive oil, tuna salad, potato salad, breads, salads, many kind of sauces, fruits, cakes,,,,,,,,,, so you order the main dish (meat/fish with something) and free to eat from the salad bar as you can. jumping8 I'm hungry now!!

For 2 people the bill will be around 400-600 Baht if you order the standard dishes. ;)

And I'm talking about 2 very hungry adults.  wildman

*Wednesday start at 16:00pm they have extended menu with promotional dishes make it even a better deal! king1

The whole thing with Sizzler is their great rich SALAD BAR, not you typical 'Thai buffet' salad bar... hahaha

Location of "The Mall" ("Sizzler" restaurant is on the 2nd floor):

Thao Suranari Monument (อนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารี)

Thao Suranari Monument (อนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารี) is a memorial to the Thai heroine called ‘Ya Mo’ by locals. Built in 1934, it is located in the city centre.

Thao Suranari was originally Khun Ying Mo, the wife of the assistant governor of Nakhon Ratchasima.
In 1826, Chao Anuwong of Vientiane invaded Siam and sacked Korat. After his forces rounded up families in Korat and began herding them back toward Vientien, Khun Ying Mo according to legend rallied villagers to fight against their captivity, enticing the Lao soldiers with rice wine and sex.
They first confused and then overcome their captors in actions that introduced the first blunt against the Lao incursion into Siam.
In honor of this King Rama III promoted Lady Mo to 'Thao Suranari'.
Every year during 23 March to 3 April, people who respect Thao Suranari hold a festival to honor her bravery.
There is, however, a great deal of disagreement, including between official government historians in Bangkok and local tellers, as to whether Lady Mo (or Miss Boonleu) even existed.
Translation of a book that details accounts of Lady Mo, the events at Tung Samrit and important historical references to Chao Anuwong is currently under draft, as of 2 June 2009, by Frank G Anderson.
The translation also contains the first-ever English language detailed description of the Thao Suranari statue, as well as references to the Italian sculptor who first created the model for casting, Corrado Feroci.

--------------
Nice park in the middle of Korat city, can walk, sit there and enjoy the activity inthere, there are always festivals and shows in this park, called by the locals "Ya Mo" on the name of the main attraction there.
There are always people coming to worship the statue and pray for good luck.
The location of the park is also very convenience as there is big mainly food market just opposite the park.
