Si Sa Ket hit by severe winter

More than 600,000 people in Si Sa Ket province suffered from severe winter weather. Twenty-two districts in the northeastern province were declared as disaster-hit areas.

Si Sa Ket governor Seni Jitkasem on Thursday said the average temperature in the cold-stricken districts was below 15 degrees Celsius and it could likely be lower.

The provincial authority had set up a special centre responsible for distributing winter clothes and blankets to needy families. Some of the districts that experienced the most severe weather included Kantharalak, Benjalak and Phrai Bueng.

Mr Seni had assigned all districts and local administrative organisations to warn villagers, especially youths and elders, of dangers from severe weather conditions.

The governor also advised people to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages as they may misunderstand that alcohol can warm their bodies.

A brave man comes between Lao-Cow and a Thai villager. :D :D :D
I think he needs a  'common sense injection.'

Every year the temperature drops to 15 or below throughout Isan, so why can't the locals prepare and buy their own blankets and warm clothes, and keep them from year to year?

The answer is probably fairly obvious: - after spending their money on cards, the lottery and Lao-cow, there's nothing left to provide necessities for the family.

Hard to judge them as they all have a very hard life and job. the alcohol is their only comfort to release the pain and hurt of their body and soul.. I used to talk on it with one of village people. hard working man work on rubber trees and suger cane as well for additional income (as many of them do so).
