By Stephen White 28/08/2010A lifeline was thrown to Britain's steel industry yesterday as the Corus plant on Teesside was bought by a Thai firm for £320million.
More than 1,000 workers lost their jobs there earlier this year when its major customer walked away and closure threatened thousands more in the region.

Ssi said: "We have great respect for steel-making on Teesside and for the highly skilled workforce." Tom Blenkinsop, Labour MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said: "This deal should safeguard all or most of the jobs on site as well as those companies in the local supply chain."
Corus is taking legal action against the four-nation consortium that pulled out of the contract last year.
