All flights as usual at Suvarnabhumi

All airlines using Suvarnabhumi airport have resumed flights and normal timetables, airport director Niran Theeranartsin said on Friday.

Some airlines had cancelled flights over the past few days due to the continuing political turmoil.

“There will be no problems for passengers who have to travel at night, despite the curfew. They can just show their air tickets and passports at security checkpoints,” Mr Niran said.

Officials at Suvarnabhumi airport will also give copies of travel documents to passengers' relatives to show police at checkpoints on their way home, he added.

The airport director confirmed that the violence between the troops and red-shirt protesters had reduced the number of passengers using the airport by 50 per cent, from an average 120,000 a day to only 60,000.

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation had yesterday extended to curfew in Bangkok and 23 other red-shirt provinces for three days to Saturday night. People must stay home between 9pm and 5am.
