Aircon or air cooler
« on: April 16, 2020, 01:36:57 PM »
Does anyone have an air cooler as against an aircon in their home, if so, do they work in this climate. I have researched a little and they are not recommended in countries with high humidity, would be grateful for any feedback.

I would not use an air cooler here. Some may say they work great in the store display. But don?t forget they are in air condition showrooms. I had one when I lived in the high desert in New Mexico and it worked great as temp was high and humidity low. Tried one in Los Angeles which has a bit higher humidity and it didn?t work at all.

When I was working near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia, large  air coolers were roof mounted and were exclusively used as there was little to no humidity.  These units were more efficient than airconditioners.  Humidity is the key factor and I expect that aircoolers are  not what you want in Thailands humid air.

Air coolers work by pumping cooled water through the vents... They do not work efficiently in a humid environment. 100% waste of money. Aircon only way to go... White man Magic...

I bought an air cooler a couple of years ago. It didn't do it's job properly, probably due to the humidity here and as others have already stated - a complete waste of time and money. We eventually gave it away.
