Shipping container as garage for motorbike
« on: January 14, 2016, 03:31:36 PM »
Hi,
As I'm currently in the market to buy a track prepared motorbike, I also need to have somewhere to park it the 11 months a year I'm not in Thailand.  One option is to purchase an old shipping container, place that in my mother in laws garden, and use that for parking.  I have seen Shipping containers in the Buriram area converted to shops and even hotel rooms.  Anyone know where to purchase such a container in Buriram?   I would also appreciate input on how much to expect to pay for one.

How did you get on Sven, find one?

I am also interested in knowing more about shipping containers and container conversions in Buriram.  As you say, there are shopping centres - Lively Market, Box Square - made from converted containers, and a nice-looking hotel too - Pattara House.  So some person/s in town know where to source and how to "recycle".

My wife has spoken briefly to a mob in Bangkok that does conversions - http://www.container.co.th/index.asp I think it was, but not certain.  Delivery was quoted as B20k for a 40', which is reasonable I thought.  But they want B15k for the crane on top of that.  Must drive the damn thing all the way from Bangkok.  ;D

Nah,  I didn't find out much, so I let the project at rest until we go to Thailand in March. Plan is to ask a little about when beeing there.
I would say that the containers in container.co.th look very interesting. Especially the cottages.

There must be a local crane hire in or near Buriram, they use them at the race track for unloading the containers.  Check the BRIC fan page on facebook, there are several photos and you may get a phone number off the side of the crane.

If you go along the 226, starting from the Thai Watsadu end and heading towards the race track, you will see a resort with a windmill at the front on the left side.

They have recently had some containers delivered and are currently converting them. Maybe have a chat with them. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

In one of Pichai's Hardware Store posts he says he knows of large cranes for hire in Buriram / Korat: http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,8598.msg55922.html#msg55922

Edit: Haha, replied to the wrong post.  So I will add, that windmill resort on the 226 must be quite new, I cannot find it on google streetview.  Have asked the brother in law to have a look for it next time he is passing that way - I am not in country atm.

BIL says he knows a guy running a restaurant out of a converted container near the university, will see if he can find information re sourcing / conversion from the restaurateur.  I'll post any useful information I get.

Drive past Big C and Makro as if your leaving Buriram and it's first left at the first set of Traffic lights... Drove past this place a week ago.. Have plenty of containers and looks good

Noticed the place a couple of days ago;  had people waiting on me, so couldn't take a closer look at the time.  Seems like it was before (west of) the Toyota dealer, & across the street.
