Bus, train station toilets to be free

Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt has ordered all toilet services at train and bus stations to be made free of charge.
He has also extended free bus and train services for another six months from Sept 30.
The minister said Monday that people were being charged 3-5 baht to use toilets at train and bus stations but he thought they should be free services.
State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Prapat Chongsanguan said his enterprise had contractors clean and maintain toilets at train stations and allowed them to collect charges in return.
The free service policy would prompt the SRT to seek a government budget to manage the toilets, he said.
Wutthichart Kalayanamit, managing director of Transport Co, which operates inter-provincial buses, said his state enterprise was ready to follow the minister's instructions but would first have to study the details of contracts with its toilet operators.
Mr Chadchart said the free bus and rail routes would be changed to better serve low-income earners.
