Tourism Authority Of Thailand Prepares To Adopt New Strategy For Fear Of Euro Crisis

BANGKOK, 5 July 2012 (NNT)-The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has instructed all TAT offices in Europe to monitor the Euro-debt crisis and will devise a new strategy to protect Thai tourism from the declining European tourists.

Mrs Jutaporn Roengronasa, TAT Deputy Governor of Europe, Africa, Middle East and America Markets said the TAT offices in Europe have been told to report on an economic scenario in Europe weekly to prepare the Thai tourism for the impact of the financial crisis.

The TAT will have to find a new approach to maintain the level of tourists if the European economy begins to take its toll on Thailand. Despite fears, the number of European tourists coming to Thailand during the first 5 months of this year increased around 7-8%.

According to Mrs. Jutporn, the TAT has also reported that many foreign tourists opted to visit Thailand instead of the United States or Africa, which is a good opportunity for the Thai tourism to thrive.

She further explained that the TAT is now focusing on increasing the niche markets and high-end tourists such as those who are interested in golf, wellness, spa and romantic getaways. These people are mostly from Britain, Italy, German, Scandinavia, Russia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The government would do well to look after a sector of Thai society that bring in many millions of Baht annually. That is the resident farang community and those that would like to reside in Thailand. They should free up the visa requirements and allow ownership of residential land by unmarried farang men. It would inject capital and thereby lift the standard of living. This will be the century of Asia.  It is high time the Thai government positioned itself to capitalise on the retirement aspirations of the "Baby Boomers". After all they will not live forever and they have a lot to spend.
Just my five cents worth.

Your  5 cents worth is well noted and appreciated, however the Thai Chinese who actually run the Country want it all for themselves so its virtually a "closed shop" as far as land ownership goes even though foreign investment in small plots of land ,lets say up to 10 Rai  would bring in 100s of millions and in turn would create employment for Thai nationals ,as you rightly say the "Visa system" needs a massive overhaul  and is in bad need of dragging screaming into the 21st Century to make it more " farang friendly"   :)
