what? give your ID card to a stranger? Near Buriram.
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:48:25 PM »
I was asleep for about ten minutes. My wife wakes me and says she just gave her ID card to a stranger (about 25 years old, alone - I must say this guy has balls), who is going to do a numbers lottery when he has enough cards. Befuddled? Yes that's the word. I walked down to where about 50 people were milling around, everybody expecting to win 'a jacket' (turned out to be a 10 Baht shirt).
Still befuddled I stood very, very, near this guy while she asked for her card back. Guy swallows and reluctantly gives the card back. 10 minutes later everybody has their card back and the guy has gone. No jacket.
So what the hell is this, do specifically we have to our women folk not to give their IDs to total strangers? He certainly had about 40 cards in his hands.Wish I had taken his foto at the time.

Now that you mention it.  I am doing a PIN number lottery.  All you have to do is give me your ATM cards and your pin numbers on a peice of paper.  At the end of the week everyone comes to collect their cards and I pick the lucky pin number out of a hat.  Winner gets his money back !

Any takers.

yes good idea. Actually I was wondering how exactly the scam was going to work? Does one card mysteriously disappear or what?

When you live out in the Village's lots of weird things happen and when you ask the wife to explain there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what you have been told .Sometimes things are lost in translation, other times their stories are so crazy you can't understand why, what or even if they happen .I've never heard of the ID card collection guy's though  :)

I just got back from Buriram after spending a month there. A couple of times me and the wife are sitting in the house and a 'friend' of hers comes up and wants her ID card. Wife gives the ID and the friend leaves. I ask wth that was about and the wife says the friend needed her ID to register her to vote for a particular candidate in tomorrows election.
Friend returns in about 15 mins and says she should vote for #4 and she will get 'loi baht'.  Only in Thailand

Wife is happy ... Im happy.
