My first time in Buriram (Prakhon)..
« on: December 17, 2011, 04:32:18 PM »
Hey,

Sorry for the completely newbie topic but I've been living in Thailand for a few months now mainly in Pattaya.. a girl that's been living with me is going to see her family in Prakhon, Buriram... I've decided to come along and will stay in a resort nearby...

I'm a bit nervous as I have no idea what to expect....

Is accommodation cheap?

Can I get WIFI around these areas?

Any advice... would be really appreciated.....!

Hi JC

Expect the worst and expect to pay!

Seriously, you will likely enjoy.  Does your lady live in one of the nearby villages?

Prakhonchai is 44kms south of Buriram. Small town with a few restaurants including forum sponsor Coffee Corner -who has wifi.

Plenty of resorts at around 350/400bt.

Big market every Friday night near the bus station -ideal for the women whilst the menfolk eat and drink in Coffee Corner. Always a big welcoming crowd.

Thanks!

Prices seem okay but I guess I gotta wait til I see the rooms.. don't want to pay more than 500 Baht a night really...

I just wonder what the hell I'm going to do... Pattaya always has something going on!

Will update this thread..

I think her family live in a village but ok for money etc..

There are several at 500 Bt or less. Many people who call in at Coffee Corner stay at 'resorts' (rooms) on the Plapplachai Road or Rung Sri on the Prasat Road. For a real resort (that has a swimming pool and bar geared to visiting Farangs) you will need to go to Ryans Resort just past Prasat.

Confirm Wi-Fi at Coffee Corner and also at Dieter's German restaurant in town.

It will be quiet after Pattaya and much depends on what you like to do. A visit to Phanom Rung is recommended and that is about the tourist highlight in changwat Buriram.

As Coffee Corner says - not a lot to do.

If you and your g/f are in town during 16th/19th January, consider joining the Siem Reap/Angkor Wat tour, which starts from Prakhonchai. Plenty to do there to break the local monotony, and so very different from Pattaya.

Ask your GF what plan's she has for both of uses to do while you are their....

for me its was lots of nothing to do but sit around and watch the grass grow. With the occasional visit to a Wat to thank Budda for everything that goes well. Throw into that visits to the not so local Big C or markets to get the family and myself food that suited my tastes.

Yeh Prakohn Chai doesnt have a lot to keep one amused. Friday nights as has been mentioned is pretty much the highlight of the week. The women shopping and socializing at the market...the men drinking and socializing at Coffee Corner. Most/all of the 'Resorts' are off the beaten path a bit but Prakhon Chai is a small town ...can walk end to end in 10 mins.
   Hope you have fun.

Welcome to Ban Kruat. Unfortunately here is much smaller than Prakhon Chai and it may not suit your needs well. It may be a big shock after Pattaya or any other Tourist locations or big cities. If you can arrange transport (car) you can visit Big C shopping mall about 60 kms north of Ban Kruat for shopping and eating (KFC). You can also try Farangs corner near Marketplace for a steak or breakfast.

I live here for almost 2 months.

There often seems to be more Farangs in and around  Ban Kruat than Prakhonchai.

On the Tuesday evenings that you go to Ban Kruat CoCo, the farangs are all gathered together in one location.

Go down to Prakhonchai main market any day of the week, and you will almost certainly come across farangs you have never seen before. They are kept on a tight leash by their girlfriends/wives.

I do go, most days. I do not see Falangs in the volume I see in BK (even outside the bars).

We often have more customers at Coffee Corner from BK than PC !
