Man kills and chops up friendUDON THANI : A mentally ill janitor has admitted killing his friend suffering from Down's syndrome and dismembering the body in Muang district, police said yesterday.
Officers rushed to a rented home on Thong Kham Uthit Road of tambon Mak Khaeng at 1.30pm after receiving reports of violent activity.
There, they found the severed head, hands and feet of Charnchai Namjai, 37, in front of the house.
Police knocked on the door for five minutes before the tenant, 45-year-old Boonna Maphibul, answered.
Police found Charnchai's torso and a 30-centimetre-long knife inside the blood-stained house.
Charnchai's father, Kittichai Namjai, 79, said his son and Mr Boonna were friends. Another of his sons owned the house rented by Mr Boonna and his wife, Saipin Mapiboon, 47.
Mrs Saipin said her husband works as a janitor at a clinic in Thesaban 8.She said he is also a mental patient at Udon Thani Hospital and is on medication. He experiences both visual and auditory hallucinations, to which he sometimes reacts violently.
Mr Boonna told police he had endured auditory hallucinations yesterday. When Charnchai arrived, he repeatedly asked his friend to do something about the noises and grew frustrated when Charnchai insisted he could hear nothing.
He said he took the knife and chopped off Mr Charnchai's hands before decapitating him. He then cut off Mr Charnchai's feet and kicked the head, hands and feet out of the house.
Pol Lt Col Pongpis Uparakote, inspector of Muang district police station, said Mr Boonna had been charged with murder.
