Hi Zeekee!
I haven't deciphered the mysteries of the Thai car market. I know the Vento market best because looked at really a lot of them before buying this one. It's all about condition. Ventos seem to go like this:
80,000 to 110,000 fair to poor condition
120,000 to 140,000 average
150,000 to 230,000 better
Since VW doesn't have a factory here, they don't get the local manufacture import car tax break, so new VWs are over double the price of comparable Japanese cars with Thai factories.
The cheapest VW you can get new is the New Beetle at 1.9 million. The next is the Passat at about 2.1 million. This is comparing to things I have seen in mall displays like new Mazdas at 880,000.
So you would think the higher initial cost of VWs on the new car market would trickle down to the used car market, but I haven't seen that to be the case. I only looked at a handful of Toyotas before deciding I didn't want a Toyota, but the ones I saw for 150,000 didn't look very good. The good ones started at 165,000. If I had looked longer, I might have found nice Toyotas or Hondas at lower prices. But since everyone here drives them, I really prefer a VW.
This one may be sold. Someone is waiting for a funds transfer. I should know by Tuesday or Wednesday.
When we were looking at cars, everybody told us the same thing - prices are negotiable by 5 or 10K. The current offer on this one is for 155,000.
