Fire Extinguishers

Here is some usefull information: I bought a 15lb dry powder fire extinguisher from Home Mart for 1377 Baht the other day. When I asked where I can get it refilled when used, I was told I'd have to take it to Korat. I thought this could not be true. I went to the Buriram fire department and asked them. Yes, I can have it refilled right there and they also sell new extinguishers for 1500 Baht. Sorry, I did not ask how much for a refill. Maybe someone did that before and could let us know?

when and why did you use fire extinguisher ? I assume you're talking about just keeping it at home/car for emergency ??or you use it regulary to turn off your daily barbique ??

I keep it in an easily reachable spot in case of emergencies only. I also made sure to teach the whole family from grandma to kids how to use it properly and promised extreme pain upon abuse. Hopefully, we never have to use it ever.

Putting out the BBQ is an entirely different story. Imagine what happens after having quite a few beers  . It's the way nature intended it to be  .

  On a recent Friday I went into the main Buriram Fire Station and showed the staff two different fire extinguishers that needed to be recharged.  They could not help me with the small size, but the 15 liter they quoted 500 baht.  I said fine and I would come back the next Wednesday.   On my return the price had risen to 600 baht, I was polite but they did not budge.  Get the price in writing is my advise.  The original purchase price of that extinguisher in Thailand is 1500 baht give or take, so you just give the Farang version of "Thai Smile" and no one loses face.   Yes it was interesting to train the family and household staff on how to use a fire extinguisher.  Water to stop any flare up on the BBQ, but for a LPG gas tank fire the Fire Extinguisher was a  worth the baht.   The family was a bit "casual" in their attitude when moving and connecting a cooking gas tank.

Thanks for that satukbob. 500 - 600 Baht seems reasonable especially if you consider the price of a new house and/or furniture.
