Driving on a highway
« on: October 24, 2019, 07:47:08 AM »
Driving from Ubon Province back to Buriram (highway 24) with my GF and her Mom, entering Surin Province...
There is a policeman with a radar ahead. Usually here I drive 80km/hr when 90 allowed (people passing me like I am not moving at all - 120+ at least. Also have a gps dash cam recording my driving with my speed. So no worries.
2 km later, there is a block post. They asked me to stop. The man in uniform said right away to me "you were driving 130 km/hr and we have a photo".
I said no Sir, I have a video recorder. He said we do not care about your device we have a photo. Went to the desk with a big rank patrol policeman.  Told him the same. (My GF said to me: police is always right, not argue, you were driving 130 as they said, scary of them). I said no. While waiting, many Thai people being stopped and paid 500 baht, police bag is FULL of money.
I wait, not argue but smiling and silent, they wait too. After 10 mins they let me go and no charge. Interesting experience, first time for me.

Coming down from Korat towards Kabin Buri (near the under pass) you also have to be verrrrryyyyy careful.

They have an unmarked car waiting on the left hand side, just before the under pass.

Speed limit there is ridiculous low, around 30-40km/h !

2km down the road they are waiting for you !!

Bob another money making scam by the police.  I had the same experience near Pak Chong.
I was pulled over and told I was driving at 125 km per hour.  Since I had the speed control set on 88 km per hour I said no way. Whilst I was arguing the toss another policeman stood in front of my car and photo'd my front license plate.  I told the policeman that I wasn't going to get out of my car and accompany him to the police station.  I said that if I was really speeding then I would get a letter from the police telling me what my fine was.  Frustrated by not getting his corrupt shakedown money I said good bye and drove off.  4 months later and no ticket infringement notice or fine.

I had a similar incident a few years back. 6am, was stopped and told I was doing 120Km+ Asked to get out of the car and walk over to speak with the boss. Pleasant chat -not about speeding. Then he asked which football team I supported...Man Utd or Liverpool.  I must have given the right answer as he sent me on my way.
