Title: Storms
Post by: llso on April 10, 2019, 07:05:33 AM
buriramsmiley Greetings to all my Buriram Expats, Having been unable to visit now for more than two years , I rely on this forum for up to date news from The Buriram. My wife of nearly 20 years has just called her family and they have told her that her sisters home/ shack was blown down in a storm, and requests for money. Even though they have been pretty honest about things I have been skeptical as it seems they always come up with some calamity that requires our financial assistance. They live in Southern Buriram near Plab Pla Chai, was there any major storms recently in that area?

Thanks,

LL

Get them to send pic's of the storm damaged shed, they are all on some form of social media, so should not be difficult for them to substasiate their claim.

Mahdam is on the money. smilenod

These early summer storms can be very localized and vicious. Also there's local government schemes that pay-out to help those that have been affected by these storms .
The moden flat type roofs that are in vogue at the moment seem to be practically vulnerable when these storms hit !!!

True, but please understand how long it takes to receive the money to rebuild from the local government with all the bureaucracy, weeks (maybe even months)

When your roof is gone and the rainy season is coming soon you don't want to wait till the government gives you the money ;)

Yes there have been a couple of storms recently with winds that broke some of our younger trees!

We were hit by a storm yesterday. Very high winds, heavy rain. Certainly stron* enough to take the roof of a poorly buil5 dwelling.
However, I agree with the suggestion. Ask for pictures.

Many thanks to all you guys for your prompt reply. I am satisfied to confirm that there was some severe weather in the area. Problem is now that entire extended family and others have taken up residence in our house. :D

I feel for you. Nothing like a bit of pressure to cough up for the new roof and get them out of there ASAP.
Good luck.

We just had a heavy storm in our village, fortunately not a lot of damage in our house, just the spirit house (which is real heavy) blown to bits, but half the neighbors house gone.

Reports coming in from many villagers which houses sustained damage some minor some major

Will post pictures when internet returns (typing this via 3G)

I think you are not too far from me and we just got wind no rain!

We are NE from Krasang about 10kms (as the crow flies).

We had first moderate rain, then a pause then HEAVY rain and also real HEAVY winds

I already called TOT and internet seems to be down in all our area, but fortunately electric is still on ;)

It also seems that DTAC has issues as my connection is switching between E (EDGE) and 3G.

Sorry got my bearings mixed up.

We are NOT North East from Krasang, but North West.

Still NO internet it appears that several Internet Lines were cut by the storm, so posting this via a very slow 3G connection.

Here 1 Picture of the damage of the house to the neighbors. The whole roof on front side of the house has been blown away.

Also please note, the structure on the roof of the garage was made of steel beams with now some of them missing :(

The 2nd picture shows what's left of their 120cm Sat Dish :(

It appears that the roof of the house of the neighbor has sustained structural damage.

The roof structure of the house has been build with wood, and termites have eaten part of the wood, with the heavy winds of yesterdays storm some of the MAIN beams have developed large cracks.

Oke it was a disaster waiting to happen, but this storm has certainly sped things up

Internet is back online. TOT came and discovered that a Piece of Sheet metal had severed a lot of the Internet Cables. ! While they were here, we asked them to take down the 17m WiNet Pole that was still in our garden. That Pole, with yesterdays storm was swinging  like mad ! So we are now relieved that they took it down for us !

Here are some more pictures

That piece of roof that you see laying in the fields is approx 150 meters away from where it was attached ! The wood beams are still attached :(

Today is one of those days that I like living in the village, as you see people helping when someone is in need.

We gave our Neighbors the money to buy new Sheet Metal and other building material (just to cover the roof so when it rains they are dry) and about 5-6 people showed up and have are already started fixing the roof !! (Payment for them, a couple of bottles of Lao Khao / Leo and some Roasted pork !)

As the rainy season is approaching that temp solution has to stay up for at least 6-8 months !

Thx Freddy, they are good people and with this happening it was a NON issue that we would pay for these repairs !

They were the hardest hit in the whole village, other houses also sustained damage but not as extensive as their house !

Update:

Just to inform you guys, the government just paid out the damage after the storm hit our (ex)village.

The Storm was on 17th April and the payment came through on 24th May. So well over a month.

Not really very long with the need to assess the damage and calculate repair costs.

Not many governments would pay for storm damage...a tsunami or earthquake maybe. Time the villagers took responsibility for themselves and took out some insurance. Not that expensive..just the equivalent of a few bottles of Lao Khao

I need to look into a homeowner policy. Self insured may not be the way to go. Anyone have a reputable referral?  I think I want a company that has an office or at least a claims adjuster In muang Buriram.

55555 insurance

We know it's a good thing, but they are living one day at a time.

And you think the payment was enough for the repair, all I can say is, for some it covered less then 50% of the damage done. So again they have to find ways to pay off the debts to pay for all of this.

Vicious circle !

Absolutely Offtopic. Not an office in Buriram, but Contact Aainsurance in Pattaya. Claims are all done by email. We have several insurances with them, and never ever had a problem or a claim dispute

Ps: They are a broker

PsPs: Ask your question about a claims adjuster to them, they will know which of the companies they deal with have such an office in Buriram
