Title: Abhisits Buriram Visit
Post by: Prakhonchai Nick on July 11, 2009, 06:50:15 AM
I see that the PM is today visiting Buriram and 4 amphurs. Thats the only news that seems to be available to us foreigners. Thousands of police have been lined up to ensure a smooth visit, the "reds" clearly know where he will be as they apparently are organising demonstrations, but we know nothing. Will he go to Satuk, Nang Rong, Lahansai? Someone knows, but who?

Is there no Buriram "local rag", from which details of local events, happenings etc could be used to enhance this web site? We all have Thai wives/girlfriends (and maybe even boyfriends!) and surely some would be able to disseminate any worthwhile news.

Just a thought!

From what I understand, the PM is already in Buriram and have huge traffic jam from the buriram airport to buriram city.

I also heard there are protesters of both sides (supporter and opposition / Blue & Red).

So that's all information I can provide right now.
I'll collect more information from thai people here and will update you here, hopefully you also will help me to expand the source of info from your side.. :)  jumping1

UPDATE FROM BANGKOK POST !

Red-shirts won’t disrupt Buri Ram trip
By: BangkokPost.com
Published: 11/07/2009 at 09:05 AM

Natthawut Saikua, a key leader of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship, insisted in an interview with “Democratic Station” programme at D-Station on Saturday morning that red shirt will not disrupt Today’s Buri Ram tour programe of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva as some had feared.

Mr Natthawut stressed that UDD has no resolution to rally against Mr Abhisit’s trip to Buri Ram and other provinces in the Northeast.

“But I have to remind Mr Abhisit that northeastern provinces are homes of red-shirt people and they might come out to tell the premier to hurry go back to Bangkok to find ways to curb the flu outbreak”, the UDD leader said, adding that people have constitutional right to peacefully and without weapons assembly.
